elec hood opener
hey fans has anyone ever tryed to install something to make the hood be elec..... when you open it....just a thought....Hmmmm... let me know what you guyz come up with....David ok what im trying to say is can you make ur hood open with some type of motor . the one thing i hate is when you pull the handle to open ur hood , then you have to walk around to the passenger side and prop the hood up ... so im thinking there has to be some thing we can make ... like an elec ...motor so you would not have to walk around to prop it up ......

I've never seen an electric hood raising system, but I think there was a discussion a while back about retrofitting one or two hydraulic shocks (like the stock ones on the rear hatch) to the hood to make it raise up when opened. Then again, there's always the issue of remotely closing it.....A winch maybe?

Um that is all well and good, but what happens when there is some sort of power failure and you can't get the hood open?
Then you would be kinda stuck
As far as selfe openinf and closing, just use a small hydrolic pump and a hydrolic ram. To open push the arm up, to close pull the arm down. Just like a bulldozer moves its blade. Pritty straight forward aside from the hydrolics that is.
But still a bad Idea IMHO
Oh and thanks for the clarification
Um the hood prop is on the drivers side on my car, both my GSL had it on the drivers side.
any way enough

You think a failure in the proposed electric motor is a bitch? Try popping the cable off the release latch by accident while the hood is closed!
I had to remove my bumper so that I could get at the bolts holding the hood hinges in place off. Then I had to slide the hood up, not too much, because it would warp something fierce, but enough to try and open the latch with a screwdriver.
That sucked ***.

Code Blue, I sympathize with you! I absolutely hate it when I have to complete the entire process of:
1. Open door.
2. Lift left leg.
3. Use the body's inertia to remove yourself from the cars doorway.
4. Turn around.
5. Close door, prefferably using your right hand.
6. Walk to the opposite side of car, using the closest path, for minimum waste of energy.
Depending on your car, the directions may vary for the following: Open hood, and prop open with metal rod.
7. Ensure that hood is in a safe, upright position, and..
Enjoy!

I've seen some prtty cool voice activated remote/automatic devices. I think for this application you would simply turn to the passenger side and say:
"Hey Lazyass- get out and prop my hood open!"
That should work, and even in power failure!

Why not just pop the hood prop out of the passenger side, and pop it into the driver's side?
Mine is on my driver's side, but I noticed the square hole on the passenger side for the same thing. It won't electrically lift your hood for you, but, at least its on the same side.

Geez people, i think he is in another NON-US country where he has to walk to the passanger side to prop the hood.. And his english is probably not the best..
Yeah, use dampaning shocks like on the back hatch.. You will still have to lift it yourself but it will stay up.
Check the ones from the (89-93) maxima, its hood is setup this way.

It'd take more effort to deal with the electric opener than to just walk around... besides the extra weight of motors. I hope your car was supercharged before you bought it... i'd be shocked if you took the time to supercharge your car, but still too lazy to walk around to open your hood.

I think what our friend here is trying to say, is that in those split second moments when you're cruising past some chicks, you just GOTTA be able to open your hood to impress onlookers. I do that alllll the time, so I can help you all out with what he wants.

Electric hood opener?!
What a waste of time?!
The prorities of some really boggle me. IF, you are completely done modifying your engine and don't intend to do anything else under there(because of a lack of ambition or knowledge, or both), then start worrying about things that don't really matter-electric hood openers, neon lights, gay stickers, hydrolics, extra weight/body kits.
I am not sorry for any offending anyone, I mean come on, electric hood openers???

Haha, thanks Rx7carl. I've been watching, waiting for someone to bring up this point.
And yes, I am lame. But that doesn't stop me from using my lame legs to walk around my to open the hood.
