Dual Projector Headlights?

I have been debating what to do with my headlights lately.
I already have the Xenon Diamon cut headlights on my car,
and I am not completely pleased with them.

I was thinking to switching over to the Projector Style headlights,
and seeing if they would give out a better beam, or maybe
do some kind of rigging to get the projector ones to work with
an HID kit of some kind.

Then while reading here on the forum, I see that upgrading my
wiring with relays will do wonders to my headlights.

I don't want to spend unnecessary money on an HID kit, although
I love the HID's on my wife's Lexus. I love the amazing cut-off
in the distance too.

I am thinking our old headlight system just won't work.

Just thinking out loud here, and found a set of headlights
in the Harley Forum that I check out once in a while.

I was just thinking, (mind you, I don't have the skills for this)

But, wouldn't it be pretty cool to get a set a dual
projectors from another car like these:

And cut away what we need, so that only the dual beams fit inside
our stock pop-ups?

Kinda like this:

I got the images from this link on Ebay:

I don't know what to do. Part of me just wants to wait until I install
the widebody with the air-dam - as I could install auxilary driving lights there
and might be satisfied.

The other part of me wants some seriously bright and accurate beams!

Suggestions? Ideas?

my buddy has pre-fab'd e46 bmw (3-series) projectors w/ OE or aftermarket HID kit... sharp as factory. maybe i'll post pics next week...

last time he ran integra projectors w/ HID but i guess he wasn't satisfied w/ that so he upgraded to german engineering.

and yes, it still retains the pop-up headlights.

Rewiring the headlights made a big difference. I put my new relays in the engine bay behind the left headlight on the in wall.

Found something!!

It has HID low beam, and a Halogen High beam!
You get to keep both low and high beams, all
in a stock sized 7" headlight!!

Too bad it's expensive..

That's a band aid at best. It won't give you the correct beam pattern, and that alone makes them worthless to me. A true HID needs to be in a projector lens.

Alex,

You didnt mention which bulbs you are running, if so, I must have missed it...

Ive found out that a lot of the "performance" bulbs actually suck compared to a good quality "regular" halogen bulb. For instance, PIAA bulbs. I havent seen or used a set yet that I like. I run Hella 100/65s in my DD, Sylvania Cool Blues in my truck, Sylvania Silverstars in my 4Runner, a Silverstar in my CBR600, and Im gonna try out the new Silverstars (XP or something?) in my DD when I need new bulbs.

Ive liked all those above bulbs MUCH better than ANY of the high dollar bulbs Ive seen or used, to include both PIAA and Katz.

On my bike, I had a Katz and it became downright scary at night with all the speed potential. Very easy to outrun the headlights. I threw in a Silverstar when the bulb died, and have postponed my plans for HID for a very long time.

Now then, my opinion on reflector design... Ive never seen a "conversion housing" that was capable of doing a good job. However, Ive never seen the Hella brands run, but I hear theyre good. The generic ricer ones Ive seen, SUCK. Even with a high quality bulb in these housings, you will get a poor light output due to an inferior reflector design IMO.

My bike uses an H4 capsule, and I used that. I had H4 conversions on my Toyota 4Runner because it used the 6024 or whatever (not round, rectangle), and I put some Silverstars in there. Light output sucked a lot. I went and returned them, and got the true one piece sealed beam Silverstars meant for the truck, and the difference was AMAZING.

The Silverstars have a nice "color" (or lack of) to them that I really like, a nice crisp cutoff similar to HID, and good visibility resulting from the above. They really do act like an HID, just not as "intense" if that makes any sense. Its like you dimmed down an HID light, but kept the coloring and reflectivity.

Up here in Seattle, we have lots of rain (especially lately!), and driving will all the spray from the road and other cars is hard at night, when my girlfriend bought herself another car, I was downright nervous with the low visibility her lights provided. Put some Silverstars in the thing, and the difference was amazing.

I think fabbing in HIDs would be cool, but only with the proper projector setup as mentioned.

Once again, all just my two cents. Good luck with the light decision!

Hows the car doing for ya anyway?

~T.J.

So you bought a Silverstar "sealed headlight"? I didn't know those existed.

There you go! Apparently the ones you need would be the 6024ST, the ones my truck used are the 6054ST. I was close though, haha

Concerning the new style, that doesn't use the sealed beam headlights.
For those that don't know the clear plastic, polycarbonate, scratches easily. You have to polish them to keep them from showing scratches and hazzing.

I have the one piece sealed beam, glass, Sylvania Silverstars on my RX-7.

I'm not sure how they compare to the HID like projector set up as I haven't used those yet.

I decided against the HID thing. Especially since I would want HID headlights and HID Foglights, and too much $$$ .

Today, I ordered these below. Seems all the 4x4 and Jeeps Guys swear by them.

From: http://www.rocky-road.com/ipfH4.html <-Good Info here)

Seems like what I want. The right color temperture too,
as I wanted 4000k lights, to be like my Lexus's HID's.

Before/After

I also ordered a headlight wiring upgrade from Summit Racing.

I really like the HID like "cut-off" too.

I'll let you know the results when I get them.
