driveshaft question
im planning on doing a tii swap and i know you need to shorten the driveshaft, but i was wondering...
is there an easier way to do this? im planning on swapping an -SE rear end onto my car along with the tranny. is shortening my driveshaft the only way to make it work? or can u modify the tii driveshaft? which would be easier?

Stock TII driveline is too short.
Stock 1G driveline is too long and woefully too spindly/skinny.
If the local driveline shop carries metric tube (mine didnt),then they can remake the TII driveline longer to fit you new needs...I think its around 44"?....dont quote me,its been many years since my swap. The problem is the 1G rearend flange is much smaller, but you want to retain the big TII size Ujoints front and rear.
If the shop is cunning, they can dig up a car that had the TII size Ujoints, but the 1G size flange. If not, then just do what I did,it wasnt expensive or difficult........
Since my local shop didnt have metric tube, they made a completely new shaft in SAE tube, its about the size/gauge of a Mustang/Camaro driveline, nice and beefy.
The front slip yoke from an older Ford Courier is the same spline/diameter as the TII driveshaft, and it fit the SAE tube.I cant remember what rear yoke they used, but it also fit the tube and it matched the TII rearend flange. Both Ujoints are greasable and replaceable and have not given any problems in 5+ years.
Cost.....175 bucks,typical for a custom shaft.
Then I took a TII rearend flange and had a machine shop next door turn it down a little so it was the same length and similar diameter as the stock 1G flange.
Cost......30 bucks.
Since the flange wasnt dead on the same size where the seal rides,I had to get a new rearend seal from the bearing/hydro shop.No biggie,a custom seal size, but still just a regular lip seal.I bought two just in case.
Cost......8 bucks each.
