Drilling holes and preventing rust.

Okay, there are several mods that require drilling holes in your car...

The factory spoiler I want to intall requires drilling two hole in the rear for some brackets.

Mounting things under the hood such as more ignitors or coils for direct fire. Some cold air intakes also require drilling holes.

Routing large cables life for stereo amps through the fire wall also sometimes require drilling large holes. The fuse boxes need mounting holes too...

How do you anti rust these? the holes for items that were put there stock dont seem to rust, but doesnt screwing in and unscrewing eat the primer and paint that are in the threads in the holes? Also most people use self tapping or sheet metal screws for mounting such aftermarket items... Don't these expose the metal to the elements?

It's mroe of a general car question than a first gen thing...

If you're concerned just use a dab of paint. That should do it. http://www.por-15.com is a good bet. It ain't cheap but a little goes a loooooooooong way.

There's some gooey **** like chewed gum you can get to wrap around your screw threads before installing them to seal the hole and prevent corrosion. But, I don't know where you get it or what it's called.

I just coat my screw threads with silicone sealant before installing - does the same thing.

If you're running wiring thru a hole you've drilled, it's a good idea to use a rubber grommet. But, once again, silcone sealant is a great second choice. Just align the wires in the center of the hole and squirt sealant around them. Seals the hole and prevents wires from rubbing the edges.
