Drifting Video
Little bored last night so we went out for a little late night tire killing session.
The camera gets a little blury due to amount of smoke. we also had the radar gun out, seeing speeds of 60mph at times w/ average of 50mph in this lot.
Enjoy guys

The chirp noise is from modulating the pedal and the wastegate making noise. And at the end the rt-615 couldn't take anymore came apart, did a 3min tire change and headed home.

Nicely done. I can break loose my stock tires and drift the car but nothing like that. Even with new tread its not that hard. When i get the 255's on there, that will be a different situation. I wont even be able to chirp them. hell i only get 15 in the quater as of right now.

STOP SPINNING OUT!
That's what got you on Formula D last year. But you should be very competative this year, if you're going at least. I *really really* am hoping to see you on TV again. Especially since you've not only gotten better, but you've gotten more badass! As if that's possible

Expect to see some crazy street footage this year from both the fb's. Maybe from some HD camera's if everything goes as planned.

The place is on the border of 2 counties so its not patrolled very often. If you do a search you should be able to find some of the things we've done to the cars.
615 were taken off the front and put on the rear to finish them off, but for the most part we use 512's alot, and 615's during competitions. Falken is the Best drift tire we have in the usa.

Isn't that really just power sliding all over?
The tires are smoking the whole time. No offense or anything, but that's why I see the american drift guys put V8s in FDs and 350z.
my 2 cents.

Being able to control the rear wheels and keep them constantly spinning, and creating smoke, is a hard skill in show drifting. A lot of guys use big engines because it makes it easier, but with a smaller lightweight car I can see that its a lot more fun and sometimes challenging.
Even moreso challenging because of the RX-7's shorter wheelbase. Hooray for oversteer!

I'll have to take your word on that....
What exactly is the challenge about spinning the wheels? The car has 300+ rwhp.
I'm not trying to flame, I'm just uneducated.
Also what's up with dead cow?

Cow = Steer
Oversteer due to shorter wheelbase = dead
blah blah blah
Anyway, the challenge is in not spinning out and having complete control of the front wheels steering, but having the rear wheels out of control.
Its a new take on the old term "Driving the car, not letting the car drive you."
Go onto streetfire and search drifting. You'll see how challenging it is, because a lot of d-bags are out there and suck.

Well everyone sucks at first....
That's what practice is for!
Though in the video from this thread, that looks like a great place to practice. A drift course is opeing in my area... last time I was practiceing the cop came up and just made me go home.

I agree anyone can drift...but the being able to steer the car using the gas pedal, and with min steering wheel work is harder than it seems. I think its a compliment when people say it looks easy, means to me that i am driving really smooth. The more videos or events you go to you'll see the difference between a good drifter, new drifter, and pro drifter, its hard to explain if you are not into drifting. I would rate us at the top of the grassroots level, semi pro if you will.
TIRES make the difference between being able to drift ok, and just drift insane.

RT-615 are sex on tires, but if you are new they will be a little diffcult to drift on due to there higher grip.
I'll have to find the clip of the black FB vs Red FB see if you can tell the power differance
