Cool Drift Event Oct23rd

Check out the FB in the Drift, we were able to get a 1/3 mile oval track with a criscross in the middle for the day, had a good turnout. I was of course the only FB, nobody knows how easy it is to get these cars sideways and keep'm there.
Cheaper and lighter than FC's.
Rest of the pic's are at http://www.nwdrifting.com/modules/xc...lbum=29&page=3

A buddy who rolls a AE86 took my car out for a couple of runs and is a believer now. The shots of him are the ones with the driver in a dark helmet, mine is the white open face.

Enjoy!

Ghetto Cowl, I moved my hood latch up so I could keep the hood down and still cool the engine bay.

GREAT pics, any possibility of another video? I have a few friends with Corollas too, they're very similar in a lot of ways, the only major advantages I see are quicker R&P steering and 4-link rear suspension. From what I hear they're both twitchy cars to drift with, takes a lot of skill.

I got a 84' Rabbit Rack&Pinion I fabbed up in 03'. No video this time, next time at this event there will be lot's of video. I am gathering parts to install a Suzuki GSXR throttle body and Megasquirt for the EFI conversion on my 12a.....Need more than 105WHP if I going to compete with the 240's.

nice stuff man. was it hard drifting through the corners w/o power steering and the crappy recirculating ball steering design?
it is true that FB's are twitchy for drifting and does take a lot of control to manage a smooth drift flow. need skills and lots of practice

let's see a vid in the future

The crappy recirculating ball has been gone for 2 years, 84' VW Rabbit Rack&Pinion.
The FB is easy to drift, I've had two 240 guy's and an AE86 buddy drift my car and they all said that it was an easy car to drift. It does take practice, I've drifted a 5.0 Mustang and a 2005 Subie WRX and I took to each car easily and found that I loved the power....I need more power! Need big smoke!

Good to see you addressed the steering issues, I'd imagine the stock LSD would be holding you back too at this point. Most hardcore AE86 guys I know got a 2-way as soon as they could. Aftermarket NA6CE Miata diffs work on SE rear-ends, and Mazdaspeed made them for 12A cars, although they're hard to find. Looks like Koh has one for sale though ( http://www.ohsedo.com/RE4LIFE/PartsForSale_01.htm )

You're right though, there's only so much you can do with 105hp. Four throttles are probably going to make a beautiful sound on a 12A. I've seen Honda guys make a basic manifold to bolt to the engine, then use heavy rubber tubing to connect it to the actual throttles. It sounds half-*** but from what I hear this is how they come from the factory on a lot of bikes.

The conversion took about 10 hours, I downloaded the CP Racing installation instructions and just fab'd my own from that information. The difference is amazing, tracks great and is rock steady, only negative is the Ratio, it sucks. I'm going to fab a new one and maybe move everything to the front of the hub and use a FC Rack....I got a rack and a steering column sitting on the shelf just waiting for some down time. Also the FC to FB front conversion has been a interest as well, been some good write up's on how that all goes together.
It's the rear that I really want to change, I love the shots in the 2Gen book of the 3 FB mules with the IRS for the FC, need some drawings and pics to make that conversion.
Lot's of options and not enough time, money and dry working space.

I beleive there is some one on the forum trying to make a custom IRS set up for the 1st gen I tried to search for the thread but I couldn't find it. But I am sure if you have those picture from the 2nd gen book he would love to see them. I am going to do some more searching to see if I can find the thread.

Sweet! I have yet to master the art of not spinning out and I do agree that the FB likes to snap back if you let up too much, nice in the transitions though. Just wish they had a aftermarket LSD instead of using the miata with some trimming. Check out the Dukes of Drift video thread.

If you do find it, let's start a new thread and work out the kinks, I'm so ready for this!
