All Ys are nitrided. Some R5s are. Examine the surface of your Y and compare to your R5 plates.

I knew about my Y irons, but Im not sure about the R5

the Y has a more "mirror like" finish

the R5 came out a 1980 car

Im still cleaning them and I think I found some pitting.

If they are ok, I will port them into a half bridge

I thought about doing a half bridge, then was told they're crap, so I'm thinking about doing a peripheral port now.

Boost and/or EFI can help with a half bridge.

That's why I will only run the Weber dual DCD carb from Rotary Engineering on a secondary 1/2 bp. Drives like an sp until the secondaries open up. When I had the 2 barrel Mikuni on it, I often had to drive in 4th gear at highway speeds, 60-65. Now I can cruise through town at 1500 rpm, instead of 3k with the 2 barrel.
