Door lock cylinder....how to disassemble?

85 GLSSE, the drivers door lock quit working w/ the key. Actually I'm not sure it ever worked since I've had the car, and now that's its restored we drive it. Not having the drivers side work is aggrevating. I have it out, but have no clue how it comes apart aside from removing the E-ring. Anyone have knowledge on how these come apart?

You mean removing it from the car or taking the cylinder apart itself??

i think he wants to take it apart. I think once you take it apart it gonna be hell trying to get it all back together.

Yes, taking it apart. I've done several(Fords) before, but this is a different beast. And I agree it can be nothing but solid hell putting them together. I guess I'm going to try a locksmith and see what they can do.

IIRC, they are crimped together. Not sure how "serviceable" they are.

Let us know what the locksmith says, though - - I've got one I'd like to repair too. The slot cover is stuck open.

Those are serious, but I'd rather fix what I have to keep the illuminated lock feature. I'll let ya'll know what happens at the locksmith tomorrow.

If that doesn't work out, what other options are there? I'm leaning toward the universal remote unlock systems out there. Anyone have any experience with those?

Locksmith fixed it....almost

Dropped it off Monday and he had it ready the next day. Apparently the outer black bezel is what holds the guts in...it's crimped on. He had to remove the bezel, and consequently destroyed it. Found one of the tumblers was hanging up. I picked it up yesterday afternoon and it still wasn't quite right(had to push down on the key for it to turn), so I asked to have that tumbler removed. He had a new bezel snapped over the old. If you look close you can tell but it's better than the alternative.

After a bit of searching I came across two possible lock and key sets from RockAuto.com for anyone looking for an alternative to rebuild or secondhand replace.

Airtex: 2 locks and keys $41.69

AC Delco: Drivers lock and key $59.99
