Angry This doesn't look right?

I've just taken the engine out of my RX-7 to give me access to the engine bay to fix some rust and respray.

I was going to put the engine back in as it is and rebuild it later but a quick look down the spark plug holes and all does not look good!

I get the feeling the trailing pluigs haven't worked properly for a while (The car hasn't been used for 3-4 years anyway)

Looks like that may be correct. If you have a Racing Beat Rotary Performance Technical Manual & Catalog on page 57 & 60 it shows the rotor housings the trailing plughole is just a small opening. I am not an expert, just going by what I see. Hope this helps.

I actually remember reading about why this is somewhere. Basically, it boiled down (if this article was correct anyway) to keeping the spark on the trailing plug from getting blown around by the turbulance in the combustion chamber, since it ignites at times differently from the lead ignition...

Thanks Guys

I just assumed that the trailing plugs hadn't been working and had just built up crud over the plug

I think I'll still strip it down, now its out and done 170,000 miles without being touched
