Does The Air Pump keep AUX open?

As the title states... what keeps the aux ports open exactly? Does the exhaust pickup tube give the 2 psi or is it the air pump. I guess my question is that... if i get the road race RB header, i don't need the air pump any longer right?
Thanks a lot guys.

no you won't need the airpump, but you will need the O2 sensor bung and the pressure return fitting to send the signal to the secondaries to open

Thanks a lot manntis. When you say the 02 sensor is that on pipe that connects to my cats (the little hose that comes off of it)? It is just that it is my assumption that the 2 ports open at around 4500 rpm... well when i had my friend rev up the motor i looked at the 2 port switches down by my exhaust manifold and they did not move at all. Whats teh deal? I am really in the dark on this one.

Its pretty simple. The air pump opens the aux ports ONLY on S5 cars, (89-91). On all the others they open with exhaust back pressure.

Because of this the ports will not open unless the engine is under load. They begin to slowly open at around 3800 RPM.

That pipe that connects to your cats is probably the air injection line. This is used to keep the cat from burning up. The O2 sensor is located a the end of your exhaust manifold.

Because you have a SE, any header you get will need to have a O2 sensor bung welded in it. I'm not sure if racing beat sells the road race headers with a 02 bung allready in them, but mazdatrix does. I think they add it after they get it from RB. I know they do that with the street port exhaust system.

Ok i see... thanks guys... i dunno it just seems like my car isn't as fast as it should be and i think it is cuz i clogged my cats because the oxy pipe broke and i tried fixing it but it fell off without me knowing about it so i drove it for so long. I guess i just have to sit and wait for my RB header. It isn't the header that has the air pressure pickup tube it is the pre-silencer... So in theory if i got the disassembled road race header and pre-silencer i should be good.
