dodgy mechanics (im bored story)

about 4 months ago now, i put the rx in to get checked out after the car failed to go over the pits. i asked them to identify the oil leak and check the breaks. they rang me back and said my engine is fucked cos oil was coming up from the dipstick. i drove there with a hole in my heart thinking that the rx was dead. he showed me the bit of oil, and i said that was just spilt oil from when i filled it up - it was pretty obvious it was that. the guy said oh yeah its probably just that. he said my oil cooler was stuffed, i swapped it out but i actually think its fine now that i have cleaned it. so now i just do things myself. plus i havent got enough money for other ppl to do stuff haha. anyone else have some stories?

ps. how can u test if your oil cooler is good without putting it back in car?

My window wouldn't roll up, and the shop replaced the motor and regulator. They never checked the switch, and that's what was burnt up. Thanks for costing me $350 without calling.

Getting told during a courtesy check at a tire place(getting a new tire) that it was "pretty torquey for a 4banger!"

WTF HOW DID THEY KNOW THAT WHEN ALL THEY WERE DOING WAS DRIVING IT IN THE GARAGE?

I only ever go to someone else for tires since I lost my tire changer a while back.

i wouldnt of paid that. period.

my buddy with a mazdaspeed protege took his car to a shop a few weeks ago and told them to check out the condition of the front brakes and let him know. his mom picked it up for him that afternoon and that had charged him close to $200 for a brake job. he went back up there and fussed about it. in the end i had to show him how to change his brakes and he took them back up there for a refund.

dont let people think you have to pay. if you didnt ask for the service, you dont have to pay. in some states i think you even have to sign a work order of they cant legally hold you liable for the bill, but i may be wrong.

Hah. It always seems the people with really nice expensive cars don't do their own work.

I do all of my own work. Even if I owned a Ferrari. An engine is an engine.
