Do people slam your doors?
Friday night I was talked into giving three people a ride home in the Mound (yeah, not safe, but it was the only way). Anyways the bitches get out of the hatch several times and slam the glass as hard as all hell. Most everyone new to the car slams the door everytime as well.
I guess the doors are heavy, and the seals don't really provide the impact absorbation that the newer cars have. I always warn them to shut it easy but it never fails, they slam it.
Same experience?
Right on.

All the time it just pisses me off
It's like just because you don't care about your car does not mean I don't care about mine.
I think the other problem is that most coups (especially american ones) have extreamly heavey doors and pople think that they are all the same and just slam the doors as hard as they can.
It boiles down to the fact that people just don't give a f*#k

I usually tell people "If you want to window to work please don't slam the door." I don't have A/C (in texas) and hell, it's completely true! I've found the best fix for the window track problem is just go easy on the door when you shut it when down.

actually, I've noticed the same thing-- the passenger window in my '81 always jumped its track when the door was closed hard (or I hit a big bump... either way... same general effect)
That's a good way to keep them from slamming it though, hehe

Know what you mean. And *jumps on wagon* I have the same problem. I have to tell people that the door almost closes by itself. And when people slam it, window jumps off its track, and sometimes power rear mirror jumps out of place too, then have to readjust it.

Tennis, anyone
one HAS to get mean about it,,really. people getting in the car i tell them don't slam the ******* door !! i don't let anybody touch the rear hatch glass as owners we all know just how heavy the hatch is while others don't. but people don't listen
some do,, but people need to be reminded,,,often. yeah it pisses me off too.

Every car I've owned...
I hate it when people drop hoods from as high up as they can too... I set the hood gently on the safety lock, remove my fingers from under it, and push in the center of the front edge till it engages the main latch. If this fails, I get WD-40 or white silicone spray. I do not drop hoods.
I treat car doors almost as carefully. It helps that Mazdas require that you hold the handle up to lock the doors. You only use your thumb the close the door.
When the 7 is in full effect, that will be part of the lecture to new passengers... There will be no other drivers.

alll... of .. the time... its more than 50% girls that just dont think about it. *SLAM* then "im sooo sorry" cause they hear the already broken window track rattleing around...
I mean damn, its old a japanese. aka delicate.
That and "hold up on the handle when you shut up"
"okay" - shuts door.. door doesnt lock... At this point i take into consiteration where i am, how long im going to be, can i see the car? and if its worth correcting the person and walking around the car and locking the door. Sometimes if i know im going to be right back ill just leave it unlocked. "i thought i locked it".... you didnt hold up on the handle... people seem to remember next time when they catch there own mistakes... that and the guilt helps too..
[/end rant]

hahaha, yeah, I have the same problem with people closing my door. Everything assumes it's very heavy like most two door cars are. I always say, WATCH THE GOD DAMN DOOR PLEASE! Usually nothing does any good. I actually have told people to just leave the door open so they don't slam it. Also alot of people who ride in my car also don't understand the concept of locking the door. You tell them, lock...get out..hold the handle up and shut it. What do they do....lock it and shut it. It's not that hard...

slashdog she probably was pissed. I just yell at people that slam dors. Slamming guns is bad, slamming people is worse, but slamming doors is the car collectors curse. anon my grand kids hate it when gramps is mad. and I have to adjust the mirror all over again.
