spark plugs

Be VERY CAREFUL what plugs you put in your RX-7 or you might actually damage the engine. If the plugs are too long, guess what happens , let logic guide your actions. There have been a few horror stories relative to running cheaper or longer or different brands of plugs in the rotary,DON't do it.My advice is to toss those plugs and put in a new set of the proper NGK's in.
I have owned many RX-7s in the past 14 years and never had a problem with NGKs but then I also believe in running 100% stock and don't fix something unless it is broken (exception being routine preventative maintenance).Try a search if you like (see top of page).

I use NGK BREQ14's I believe....or something like that. I'm not sure if that's the exact number, but if not it's close.

I just replaced 'em a few days ago, made a difference.

those are the ones to use for a stock first gen ignition. If you move up to direct fire or second gen coils go with the 2nd gen plugs for the leading. They should be able to tell you what number those are at the zone or at advance. I used to know the number but I've been working on other non rotary cars for too long and have forgotten.
I wouldn't get thos boschs near my engine, get em out!! They look too long already.

If by "logic" are you implying that the plug would extend into the housing and get clipped by the rotor? Logic is great, but don't talk out of your *** if you don't know what the inside of the engine looks like...

Oh - and Mazda sells two kinds of plugs. I don't know who's fingers you have to twist to get the "other kind" but suffice it to say it's good to have two of each of them in the engine.

The others look like some kind of surface firing jobbies, FWIW.

When those Bosch plugs first came out, there were rumors that the electrodes would vibration-fatigue off the plug and ruin engines.

Nothing but NGK for me.

I concur(as I usually do),with Jeff.
The "rip-off" 4 prong platinum plugs were not recommended for rotary use by Bosch.(something about the way a rotary virbrates, perhaps a resonance frequency?)

Well other than being the most obsurd thing that I have heard I don't think there has ever in the history of a rotary engine been a spark plug that is crazy long enough to get hit by a rotor...sorry about cutting your advice out of the quote it seemes alittle trivial...haha...its all personal preference as far as I'm concerned...speaking from experience of course.

Nipper.....It's nice to see another guy that believes in keeping them as close to
Stock as possible.

I had a little dog named Nipper one time. He was so sweet.

But the little bastard would NOT stay on a fish hook for some reason

I didn't say anything so ''O''bsurd at all . A spark plug could never extend into the housing far enough to clip an apex seal, that condition has never been suspected in the whole history of the rotory engine.

BUR9EQ in the trail and w/2nd gen direct fire, BUR7EQ in the lead. W/ stock SE it is suppose to have BUR9EQ-14 all the way around, however the -14's are no longer available where I live.

To the one who made the comment on can't afford 2nd gen conversion. It cost around $15 to do it so it isn't an expensive mod. Thanks to slashdawg and jeff.
