hello, I have an 82 rx7 gsl. i recently put a header on my car, and ever since i made the change, my car sounds like a dirk bike revving when changing gears. My question is what muffler can I put on to deepen the sound.

I would like to make the car sound a little more mean, instead of a dirt bike or chainsaw.

+1 for RB. yes it's alittle pricey but it's the only muffler u'll ever need.

Also what kind of header is it? If its a thin walled header like a pace setter or something no
amount of muffler or presilencer will help. Thats one of the reasons the RB stuff is so thick, it
kills the high frequency sounds from radiating out of the pipes.

I have a pace setter header, with straight pipe all the way to a new RB muffler. Muffler sounds great, but the end of the header is very tinny. What can I do to eliminate the tiinny noise.

I read that some people put a presilincer in place of the cat and that would eliminate the tinny sound. But then others have same setup as me and no tinny sound. What are my options?

I just finished the install of the rb header and presilencer and love the way it sounds....but the rb header (like stated above) is thick walled steel. You can try putting a presilencer in after the header, but you may still have to swap out headers eventually to get rid of the tinny sound. That is a VERY common complaint with the pacesetter headers.

Ok so I understand that pace setter headers are garbage. I can really afford 275 for a new header. If I wrap the pacesetter header, What kinda a wrap should I use??

I ve been really thinking about putting stock manifold back on to get rid of tiiny noise.

Go to your local speed shop and buy header wrap and the little straps

Get a presilencer, it will make a big difference. I have a pacesetter header with a vibrant presilencer and a magnaflow muffler. It is a little raspy but sounds pretty good. The sound was unbearable before I got the vibrant presilencer.

A lot of people talk **** about the pacesetter headers, but have probably never had one. I will admit, it is thinner than the rb unit and doesn't sound as good as an rb, but it is a lot cheaper. I think I paid $150 new for mine. You get what you pay for I guess. But I have had mine on my car for about 6 years now without any problems.

This is what I use, it takes the heat and just seems to hold up better than others. I used the stainless exhaust ties, but you can use hose clamps(a lot cheaper that way). Most parts stores carry it.

Might not hurt to spray it also since you don't have a stainless header.

Wrap the header first. I use a racing beat universal 2.5" muffler + a small dynatec muffler just behind the header. Sounds fantastic.

yea get some high heat paint or poweder coat the header then wrap it because one of the drawbnacks of header wraping is incresed rusting due to water collecting in the wrapings and being steamed against the headder. so put a heat resistant coating on it and then wrap it and your header should last a lot longer and also get the highs down also.

will it take away the tinny sound if i wrap the header also should I put the cat back on too cuz im really starting to smell the exhaust. Its almost unbearable at a red light. ( very smelly)

It should help with the sound some, you really need to wrap it anyway. It'll help keep the temp of the engine bay down some.
Just pick up a can of high temp header/exhaust paint first and spray it.

I have no emissions and I premix on my SE and don't really have an issue with smelling the exhaust. I just cant crank it anywhere without good ventilation or you will die lol. Check and see if you have any leaks under the car.

I'd just like to say I recently used the Titanium lava rock wrap for the first time and I will NEVER use conventional wrap again! MUCH nicer to work with and no fibers that make you itch for weeks. Also, DEI recommends you NOT spray the wrap with moisture repellent. I don't suppose it'd hurt to paint/coat the header itself. but the outside spray is supposed to be useless on the titanium wrap.

DEI makes a water repellant sealant specifically for this purpose, but don't recommend it on the lava rock stuff. Sorry if I was unclear.
