Direct fit aftermarket speakers
I did a search and found some people using these speakers but was wondering if these are no cutting, direct fit aftermarket speakers or will I be in for some modding?
Front Speakers: Infinity Kappa 52.5i
Rear Speakers: Infinity Kappa 63.5i
Thanks

5" fronts will need some fabrication. 4" fronts are direct fit. 6" rears are a direct fit. Be aware that Kappas take ALOT of power. They have great clarity but will be quiet if you're not running a high power system.

fronts are kind of interesting as getting the damn speakers out is a pain in the ***. Not to mention its a shitty spot for speakers anyway. Alot of guys put them in the doors, but you have to mold them so they stick out a bit, otherwise the window regulator will hit the speaker.

I have the 4" kappa's up front and 63.5's in the rear. And running a 50wx4 pioneer head unit.
I can say for me, that they are PLENTY loud. Even at 80mph on the highway with the windows down. You do loose a little clarity from the shitty front speaker placement. But, if you know how to set your EQ right, and center position on the headunit, you can make up for it.
I had a strange fitment problem when installing them though. When i originally bought the speakers they were for my 85 gs. The 63.5's were very snug to fit into the rear holes, but they fit. Well, when i transfered them into my 79 the hole was about 1/8" to small all the way around. All i had to do though was hold up the plastic mounting right, mark with a sharpie, and use a die grinder to cut away some of the excess sheet metal. So, it wasnt a big deal. I do reccomend that when you install the rears, use the plastic ring they provide and just drill new holes. Its easier that trying to line up the metal rings. And the plasitc wont resonate like the steel will.
The hole install took about two hours, but it was defintaly worth it.

i'm ready to order the speakers...infinity kappa 42.5i in the front and infiniti kappa 63.5i in the back...
i haven't decided if i'm going to replace my head unit or just get a cd changer for it...(i like the stock look)...but i will definately need a new amp(s) for the speakers...
i'm no good at figuring out what would be good for these so can anyone help me pick a good amp?
thanx

right now i have 2 mtx amps. one for my speakers and one for a sub. i like the mtx amps. they are verry affordable and good quality. if you are using infinity speakers though, you would probably be best going with an infinity amp. i have never used infinity but i have heard that they have some great amps. try it out and then tell us how you like them. just make sure you get something with the right amperage.

I've had Blaupunkt, Clarion, and Rockford Fosgate amps. The Rockford Fosgate is by far the best amp for power and reliability/quality. They're expensive but if you're already spending on Kappas, you probably aren't looking for the cheapest parts.

So far I've decided on the following...
Pioneer DEH-P7600MP for $201
Infinity Kappa 42.5i for $70
Infinity Kappa 63.5i for $95
Rockford Fosgate Punch 801X for $285
I know I said that I wanted to stay with the stock look but the more I think about it and the more I see i'm trying to get quality sound the more I find myself having to get a new head unit. Opinions are appreciated on the head unit!

ill reccomend the pioneer, because i have one and love it. It takes some playing around with to get the sound perfect. Unless your running subs, i dont think you will be needing that poweramp. Why not just get the head unit, and the speakers for now. and if its not loud enough. upgrade to the power amp later.

in order to hide the space that will be there once i install the head unit i was wondering if anyone has 2 of the small pockets that go underneath the radio...i know mazdatrix has them but wanted to see if anyone has any that are not needed...

bizarro, where are you getting your parts? Those prices for the Kappas seem pretty good. Are those each, or for a pair?
Are you planning on running straight speakers w/o a sub? I pretty much want the *exact* same setup you're aiming for, except I want a high-quality single 8" sub mounted in a custom box at the very back of the "trunk".
Any suggestions for subs guys? I'm not a big bass-addict. I like crisp, clean bass that doesn't drown out the rest of the music (I'm into rock and alternative.. not bass-y techno, pop, or rb). I figure with such a small car, I could mount an 8", bounce it off the hatch glass and get some clean bass.

they've got GREAT deals on Audiobahn, Infinity, and other stuff. I bought my 10" sub from them, they had it on my doorstep in 3 days.
