They were a bad idea in the early 80's, and stayed dead...

digital dashes are still very popular in motorsport .... take a look at world rally cars or F1 cars, or ......

They are very expensive tho'

I've seen then most on late 80's early 90's granny brick rides. And my personal opinion is "meh."

I'd take white-faced gauges, or something of that sort over digital any day.

Until a working one comes out, digital dashes are a pain in the neck. I know three people who had them in their cars. One car would say "0 mph" when the car was doing 60 mph. The other had a blinking problem and sometimes the dash would go out all together. The other person didn't like the response time of the speedometer - too slow. Besides, I think these mechanical dashes in the ReX's are pretty cool.

both gauges and watches should be analog. Both give a representation of "relativity" that digital hasn't been able to mimick very well.

best of both

thats why the most important guage is kept on most of them I've seen ... + you can set all the other functions with inteligent alarms so that you don't need to keep looking at the auxiliary displays and when you do have a spare moment to take a look all the data is available in numerical format + theres the data loging aspect and they are more compact and lighter etc. etc.... like I said it makes sense for race/rally use but on the street its just a gimmick and like you said most people like gauges better ( I do)

digital can look kinda cool sometimes, but i would rather have analog any day. my friend has a beretta and the digital tach couldnt keep up with engine, so it sucked ***.

They are sweet, I have a clubman Tacho in my kit car . acurate to 0.5 Rpm at 8000 rpm and it recalibrates the display every time you turn the car on, and its a stepper motor so its sooooo smooth I love it !

I designed a whole custom dash a while ago, I dont know if its still around though. I used another forum members layout, but replaced the Phantom gauges with Cyberdyne digital gauges. I lost interest due to the cost. About $400 for the whole dash...Plus senders and what not. But it would look cool as hell though .

So where can I get a nice analogue set of gages, especialy a tach that goes high... say at least 10k, but a 12k tack would be nice.
