different fuel pump?
Im putting a sidedraft mikuni on my 84 gs and I was wondering if I need to upgrade my fuel pump and put a regulator. I asked atkins rotory and they told me I don't have to. But from what iv'e been reading it sounds like I need to. Any input would be appreciated.

I would recommend up grading (the reason your upgrading your is performance right?) because that tired old stock pump is putting out unknown results and I wouldnt trust stock pressure # for the pump whereas it is ~20 yrs old more then likely

I personally am running a holley red and a holley .5-5.5 regulator with a stock nikki. many other use a carter fuel pump and regulator.
they are all kind of noisey but work great jest remember to get a gauge to go with the regulator so you can tune it

Before sterling goes into a frenzy about posting on someone else's computer acting like a different person, I should explain the obvious....mar2 will be my Dad whom I registered last night....the above recommendation was a test post to show him how it all works....I still HIGHLY recommend the Mallory Comp110 and its standard billet regulator....if this pump can keep up with bracket 427 cid mouse blocks on the track, there is no way any streetable rotary will get ahead of it....gerotor technology is ahead of vane-style pumps,,,,and they're prettier, too...bling, bling...

Ehhh.
Mario, we've jokingly gone back and forth on this for a year. Only a little funny, anymore- kinda like watching a tennis match- your neck's bound to get a kink in it!
...So let's spice it up a bit:
"You SUCK!"- How's that?!
No, Mr. Aguire- I'm very much kidding! Your son, Mario is a valuable book of knowledge for this board! (And, of course, 'Welcome to Rx-7 Geek Heaven!')
Mar3- How does the price of your favorite pump compare to the obviously cheap (but widely excepted as better than "good enough") Carter?
Someday I'll take your advice. But for most guys, I do believe price is a factor.

im using holley blue with a regulator and performance wise, i have no complaints at all. i had a fuel pressure guage sticking out of the hood so that i can see the guage while im driving. on the freeway, i have floored my car all the way to redline up to 5th gear. the pressure stayed constant at 4.5psi, which is wut a want. the thing is... the damn fuel pump is way to loud... i like my car nice and quiet and the only thing i want to hear is the pure sound of music comming out of my rotary engine. dont realy wanna hear a nasty humming noise commin out of my fuel pump. do u guys know any fuelpump that will put out 4.5psi and stay quiet at the same time???

Kouki, I've tried the Holley as well and the Carter is a lot quieter... probably due to fact the mounting system is way better. Some people complain about the noise but I really don't have a problem with it. In fact when the engine's on I can barely hear it.
