different egt temps

Is it normal to have about 100-150 deg difference between the 2 rotors?

If so why is this and whats going on?

thanks bryan

Hey Bronco,
There are a couple things that could cause that; Probe placement, differnces between the probes, or the air to fuel mixture.

Have you swapted the two probles or their wires to see if the differnce is in the probe or in the air to fuel mixture.

So, what kind of carb are you running?

What temp are you tuning to? 1500, 1550, or 1600?

i lied temp diff is about 400-500 deg at idle.
our probes are at about the same distance from the port 18" on both give or take an inch.
the carb is a rx7carl/sterling PBandJ racing modified nikki.

The engine is a newly built 12A street port that will be built into an Eprod car.

intiall upon start up (push started) both exhausts were about 1200-1400 at 2000 rpm.

we realized we probably had retarded ignition. so we put the stock pulley on it and then set timing. all was well with that 16 deg on Leading and 24 on trailing. started it again and one rotor was at about 800 the other at 1200. O2 sensors about 4 " from the port are saying 1.00v. All of these temps are at low throttle.( idle set vary high at 2k)

thanks for any help
bryan

Bryan,
Do mean the timing is 24 leading and 16 trailing? Or am I turned around on this?

I would check you idle circuit to see if they are set about the same. 400 degrees is a good deal of difference. So, when you get on the gas a bit do the temps even out? If so, then I would think this really is in the idle circuit.

Do you have any kind of spacer between the carb and intake?

you are correct on timing 24 L 16 t.

when i took it down the road about 100 feet under light throttle at 3k rpm temps got within about 200 deg of each other. I will have a more detailed look at it tonight.

yes there is a spacer inbetween the carb and manifold.
all the nipples are plugged.

what is involved in the idle circuit? i thought the idle mixture screw was the only thing involved. should i be changing one of the air bleeds?

Bryan
