Difference in SE and GSL bolt pattern/brakes
I know that they are differnet, but, besides bieng able to find rims easier...whats the benifit of the large bolt pattern? Im wanting to eventually put a 13B in here before i go off to college, and i saw that people recomended more braking power if you do install a 13b. Well, do they make bigger disc for the GSL that are simmilar to the SE? Other than large discs and availablity of rims, IS there any difference? WHat im asking is that if i can get bigger brake rotors and throw in a 13b, is a SE going to be any better. Reason i dont just sell my GSL and get a SE is becuse my car has NO RUST. When my dad first bought it he spent like $4 grand to have them do this real complicated anti rust stuff to it, and so far ive seen absolutly no rust. Ive lived in germany and on the coast too. The interior and all is also almost in perfect condition. They got plenty of wrecked GSL-SE's in the junkyard around here, 4 or 5, and im sure ONE of those engines is running. They have a place here that rebuilds um too. SO, i quess im asking if there would be any difference between a GSL with a 13B and bigger brake rotors and a SE.

Basically, the GSL-SE bolt pattern is an incredibly common pattern. Mustangs from '74 to '93 used that bolt pattern, as did most 4-lug Fords from that era. Almost all Nissans used/still use that bolt pattern. Many Honda Accords use that bolt pattern. And so on... basically it's very very easy to find aftermarket wheels for that bolt pattern (4 on 4.5", alternatively 4x114.3mm) Because of the commonality to Mustangs, you can easily get cheap race wheels for them because there are many circle track classes that the 4-cylinder Mustang (and Mustang II and Pinto) can run in. $35 race wheels? Sure!
Meanwhile, the 12A RX-7s and all other RX's before that (except REPU and Cosmo) used an oddball 4x110mm size. The only other cars that used it are, uh... well allegedly some late 60's Toyotas used it, but that's about it. You can find aftermarket wheels... but it's really tricky.
As for vented rear brakes, I don't buy the advantage. Racers typically adjust the rear brake bias DOWN because the stock 12A rear discs are plenty good enough... now if our cars had a hefty rar weight bias so the rear brakes could contribute more, then they'd make sense.
The GSL-SE *is* just a GSL with bigger brakes and a 13B...

ok, thanks for the info. Ive still got a little voice in my head that says rebuilt and street port the 12a, but i really think that going the 13b route would be easier...easier to get parts later on since the 2nd gens used it.
