Difference between '79 and '81 strut tops?

Here's the deal... I have a '79 7, and have reworked all of my suspension. Only when I ordered my front shocks, I was only able to find '81-'85's(Tokico). In placing them on the car, the hole for the shock in my strut tops is not round but has flat sides, where the shock top/shaft goes through, and the shocks are fully rounded.

If I order the '81-'85 strut tops to match the shocks, will they fit on my '79? Will that affect the performance at all? I'm assuming I'll have to re-do my alignment though.

Anyway... any advice you can give would be great. I'd hate to order the parts and not be able to use them. Springs around the corner and I'm ready to roll 'er out of the garage...

Thanks.

thanks j9fd3s... I'll be going the purchase route for '81's rather than drilling my old ones. hate to take my chances.
