Which diff???
Can you high horse power guys or drifter tell me which diff you're using and send links.
I'm in the market for a upgrade because mine is almost done.

Drifting adds a whole new level of concentrated abuse that no upgrade can garuantee to be able to handle.....so no comment or suggestions there.
For a street/occasional race vehicle,Ive had no problems with the stock rearend taking about 300hp from my S5 TII swap. Its been happily doing its job for the last 6 years and 50K miles with no issues, except a noisy pinion bearing I replaced a while back.Plus, this was a junkyard SE rearend that already had 100K miles on the clock when I bought it.Starting with a good condition unit is key, even stock HP levels will pop a diff if its already trashed.
In fact,my TII trans is actually ready for a rebuild now, bearings are getting noisy. It only had 80K miles on it, and was installed about the same time as the rearend.....go figure!

As far as the ring and pinion are concerned, they are all the same, save for ratios and gear pitch. The gears, bearings and carrier are equally sized.
The side gears and axles are bigger on the 84-85 models, but that doesnt make the differential any stronger.
Supposedly, the SE's LSD has a couple less friction discs, but again that doesnt make the differential any stronger.
FWIW,Ive never had any traction issues with my GSL-SE rearend. That is to say, when I do break traction under power, both tires always spin. The nature of our LSD is such that, the more torque you feed them, the harder they hold.Thats why my rearend still locks up,despite the fact I have almost no pre-load left in my discs.
The ring/pinion gears also tend to be pretty robust. Its the axle shafts that most people tend to damage first, and that item can be upgraded with either 84-85 units,or Moser axles.

Ive been drifting on 4.44 gears kaaz diff for about 3 years. With no issues. The only problem i had was with u-joints, and bending axles. I upgraded my driveshaft to a 3 inch aluminum with 1 ton chevy u-joints, and installed moser axles.
When i 1st started sliding on a daily basis i used a stock lsd, which lasted for a few months. One the best things i ever did was buy the kaaz! the amount of control this diff gives you is amazing. Over the weekend i drifted a all stock sr20 silvia, with a viscous diff, it was so much more work trying to keep the rear out. My lines where dependent on whether the diff lock up or not.
My vote is a kaaz, worth every penny!
