well for starters have you replaced plugs and wires and adjusted timing?? i think u can do timing on an 82. also you could try some seafoam or mmo that helps clean alot of your crap out.

Definitely check the fuel filter as well as the standard tune-up. The filter on an 82's are fairly cheap and rust and crud from the tank often fouls them (especially if you've used some kind of fuel system cleaner in the gas tank). You might also want a secondary in-line filter on the hose in the engine bay leading to the carb.

Have no idea, can't hear it from here. lol. A gasket leak can sound like a whistle, thank Jeff20B for that insight. Other than that, check all the vacuum lines, hoses etc.. There is one vac line that needs to be hooked up to the air cleaner or the engine will die. With the air cleaner off, it needs to be plugged for idle, unless you've done the rats nest removal.

Yeah that's the shutter valve. For a temporary fix, just take the air cleaner top off and start plugging holes with your finger until you find the shutter valve one. Once you plug that it should go away and run smoother. Just plug it with something. Yeah if you don't need emissions, trash the rats nest

i has similar stalling problem and it turned out to be the gasket leaking under the carb, letting water into the mixture and causing stalling at idle - if you have a sweetish/boiling kettle type smell coming from the exhaust that could be your problem (dont breath in too much though - its hard to get them through emmissions 4 a reason - lol)
