Question Did she Finally let go?

This one has me stumped!
I own an 84 GSL SE (13B-EFI). I was forced to drive through a pretty deep puddle on tuesday afternoon during a heavy downpour. seconds after that she started running erratically. after I had travelled approximately 1 mile ,... she stalled. I re-started and she ran rough until the next light,...she stalled again.
this happened three or four times,... however on the fourth time she wouldnt restart.
I had it towed to a trusted mechanic friend of mine who owns 2 Rx7's both (12A's).
he is lost as to what the issue is,... maybe you can help?
Symptoms:
When attempting to start, the starter just "clicks" (put a new starter on, same thing, just clicks)
she was 2 qts low on oil when it was brought in (I baby this car, and watch the oil level closely, this confuses me)
we checked for cracked block no apparent damage?
Oil pressure on the car was excellent.
Battery is pulling fine.
when turning the crank manually, it seems to have alot of resistance.
we pulled the plugs out to eliminate compression and then turned crank, still alot of resistance.
It seems as though there is too much resistance for the starter to turn the fly wheel?
When we pulled the sparks, i noticed slight damage to the ends?
This little car is emmaculent, I bought her new in 84' and she has been pampered.
please let me know if your have any helpul information.

How many miles on the engine?

I doubt if it had anything to do with the puddle unless water got into the intake. Did you pull the air filter to check if water got in? Did you go in over the hood? Perhaps water did get in, got sucked up into the engine, displaced oil, lost lubrication, making the seals fail, pieces went flying and therefore the damaged spark plugs.

The damage on the plus is are really bad sign.

Maybe you should have the engine disassembled to a look see? Unless someone knows of another cautious way to investigate the condition of the seals?

Eitherway I'd be very careful before spinning her again.

EEK

I would say that the water lever was to the bumper, I have not checket the cleaner,.. i will do that in the AM.
there is 81K on the engine.
Worst case scenario, rebuild? or should I just get another engine? any ideas of respectable companies to get them?

How much will a non original engine hurt the value of my car? any clue?

Ouch! Water'll do that to a rotary? I know I've taken on water in my Honda with no ill effects except a wet air filter. (It actually helped clean out my carb. Now I don't need to rebuild it, which is good, cause I hate working on the Honda :p )

Welp, I know I'm going to avoid water in the 7 once I get her back out on the road.

Do you have the air inlet hooked up to the air cleaner box still? If so, I bet you took on some water and its trying to hydrolock.

The air inlet is in the lower part of the front bumper, a prime place to suck up water in your situation.

Try the imfamous ATF trick to see if you can get it to run at all.

Doesn't sound good though

Im Hooked!

I posted for the first time last night, and i have to say that the respose i have received is truly remakable. This is a great place for anyone whom has questins or even would like to make a statment about their car.
Ya'll get used to see-ing me around, I like this place and am here to stay!

Update on the car:
Well she is in fact gone, i am now on the prowl for a new 13B.
Im gonna pose a question....
Shall i bring her back stock or shall we have a little fun with her this go around. i would like suggestions on the best way to hop her up.
I'll spend up to $3,500.00 on her.

How would you spend the $$

The car is ABSOLUTLY prestine in every way,...with the exception of the engine. ill work on posting a pic in the next couple of days.

Thanks again all!!

OOOH! Have Fun!!!

Pristine eh? 3,500 straight to engine? Exxxxelent!

Rebuild the engine with fresh rotor housings and get it ported. You should have some left over to spend on exhaust and intake mods.

Just take the distributor cap off your current distributor, then spray it with WD40 and let it dry. That will displace any water. Save some money too.

Did you try the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) treatment yet? If you haven't then I suggest you do before dishing out that kind of cash!

ATF

I have not tried the ATF yet, Im going to get the car towed to the house before I try. The mechanic where it is at isnt as affluent with Rx7's as I had originally thought.
If ya would, could you please lay out the steps of the "ATF Treatment" so that I know Ill do it correctly.

Thanks Guys!!!!!!!!!!

Hey its me again.(that is if you've read my other post)
Just wanted to let you know that if you decide to do a conversion of some sort, I'd like to take a stab at your engine, that is if you were thinking of selling it.
For now id just check out this site and maybe it will help you in making a decision

Well she is at the house now!

Im gonna try this ATF thingy,... I know its a longshot, but hell what have i got to lose!

Im also going to tinker with it for a day or so to see what i can do. Its kinda scary for me seeing that ive never torn into a rotary before. However, Ive rebuilt engines, tranny's, motorcycles.

heres the way I see it, the core for the engine is $450.00 if I cant do anything with it, ill let it go for that.

OR,... your more than welcome to come on down and apply your efforts to assist me in fixing it!!!

Thanks
