Detaching brake lines from backing plate?
Alright getting my difrential rebuilt so figured Id repalce the rear wheel bearings while I was at it, however Ive run into a little snag, the backing plate cant fit over the old wheel bearings and I cant seem to find an easy way to detach the brake lines from the backing plate.

the brake lines thread into the calipers not the backing plate. the wheel bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft with a locking collar so unless you've already removed the backing plate and used a puller to remove the axle you won't be able to see the bearing.

shoot some brake clean all over that backing plate point where the brake line snakes through it. soft line side is gonna be 10mm, the hardline is 17 i believe, might be 14 and i might have them mixed up. either way blast the **** out of it with some liquid wrench or whatever penetrant makes u smile an let it sit a while. there is a "tab" that slides over the brake line like a clip, it has a lil rolled top area, and slides upward with some love an effort. once that is removed the brake line will move freely in the bracket allowing you to get a wrench on the hardline side.
USE FLARE NUT WRENCHES, or lineman wrenches or whatever you want to call them, but they are the open ended wrenches that grip on 5 sides rather then 2 like a box end with a slit in it. if you use a regular wrench i almost garuntee rounding the 10mm nut off. the 17mm side is a lil stronger. DO NOT USE vice grips after rounding the 10mm nut in hopes that will save you, your chances of getting a tight enough grip without crushing the nut are slim, and your chances of putting it allll back together again are even slimmer
if its too late and you have already rounded the 10mm you are going to have to get back there with a dremel an patience and cut a slot wide enough to slide the hardline through. the trick i found was after making the cut, remove the screws holding the backing plate on which will allow you to monkey it around untill u can slide the hardline thru it, dont bend the hardline if u can avoid it.

Some times there is a little more holding the axle in, I had to chain a Corolla axle housing(still in the car) to a tree, and use my F-150 as a slide hammer. It came out on the 2nd "slide".
