DDable exhaust

OK, everytime I see a "new exhaust" thread, well the ones where they just have headers and a muffler, the key word in it all is it is LOOOOOOUUUUDDDD!!!!1111
I dont want a car that cruises at 110db. If I add a glasspack/resonator before the muffler, will that bring it down to a reasonable volume? I dont mind louder than stock, just not soo loud that I have to worry about going deaf.

well using a prsilencer or another mid muffler will reduce the sound BUT if you use a glasspack that will NOT last long because it WILL get burnt out by the heat of the rotary engine.

sell your rex and buy a honda, I hear they're pretty quiet...lol

seriously, I'm running a RB header with LOOOOONNNG primaries a magnaflow pre-silencer and a magnaflow muffler, similar to the one onylonthurs is running, looks great, sounds great and stands up to the heat. I'm also running 2.5" piping and no cats. I can get away with the no cats because florirda has no emission laws. If you keep the cats or put a high flow on there it will be quieter. My entire set-up including lengthening the header primaries, and buying the 2 muflers, installed, cost me just shy of $400... comparitavely a new RB system will cost you DOUBLE that..... just my .02

im currently running RB race header-2.5in collector-3in straight pipe with 2 pre silencers then a 3in muffler on my very large SP 13b. the sound level at part throttle and idle is not bad, but WOT is VERY loud.

All of that fits under the car? (well I figure the turndown is in the stock location but..) Does it zigzag across the bottom of the car and stick down like crazy?

I just installed my new straight pipe exhaust, and tucked it up into the trans/driveshaft tunnel. I dont really like the idea of anything hanging down lower...but its prety loud!
You have no problems with bottoming out on your exhaust???

I think I may update at some point to quiet it down a bit....of course I will add a cutout valve if I ever do for those times when I need it, Im just worried about mounting any more mufflers under the car.

yep, header+presilencer+14" magnaflow+16" borla xr-1 + borla turndown

no fitment issues at all. no bottoming out issues at all. ive driven over many speed bumps. i have yet to hear my exhaust rub. my car isnt lowered though. i will be installing ST lowering springs soon. hopefully then i wont have rubbing issues still.

81WideMariah, how long of a silencer and muffler did you use? Compared to other "performance cars" on the road, how loud is it? As loud as the Honda running no exhaust? The 5.0 Mustang with his flowmasters? The Nova running Cherry Bombs?
The main thing I am worried about is cruising on the highway - it can wake the dogs in the next town when I rev for all I care My Grand National is running a 3" downpipe into 3" single exhaust w/ a 14" Mangaflow. I dont mind my '7 being louder than that because its not my family car, just so long as its not like reving a gas chainsaw in a dumpster when I am commuting.
