damn brown interior
I have a brown interior that really limits what colors are going to look good on the exterior of my 85, but the exterior is beige, and its not a very complimentary color for that car. Anyone have any suggestions on a car that would look good with a brown interior?

My car has a brown interior and I think it looks great with my Burnt-Orange (I don't know the actuall name, but it seems to describe it well) paint. A gold pin stripe helps break up the color and compliments it well.

I've always thought the brown interior looked pretty good with the light beige paint, both great colors for a 1st gen 7. Here's some pics of my daily driver:

The light color is easy to keep clean, cooler in the summer and doesn't show the minor blemishes our 20+ year old cars sometimes pick up, especially if you drive them.
Why don't you keep it the way it is?

You could learn to love it. This is a sign of maturity and it saves lots of money, not to mention preserving that rarest of beasts, an original RX7 paint job that's still in good condition. And, as trochoid points out, it's a great sleeper. I've got the light beige and I don't get the attention from the cops I would if my car was red or black or, horrors, orange.

The Sleeper
I agree the beige is a perfect color for a sleeper like mine. With my engine, I need to be as unobtrusive as possible! See my car at:

Look on my second page and see the red and silver car. I suggest you leave the top beige, then paint the sides and lower part a medium metallic brown. That would be a unique and interesting paint job, but still reasonably subtle compared to red, orange or yellow. That would also minimize the amount of sanding and masking. And the metallic brown is the absolute best color for not showing dust, mud etc.
If you want to get fancy, paint the top a champagne metallic and the sides a medium metallic brown. I had planned to do that when I started, but the beige is such a great sleeper color, I decided to save myself the trouble.

i vote to keep the stock color. i wish my paint was in immaculate condition! i'd love to keep it original. however, this ungodly Florida sun has burnt the clearcoat in so many places that i'm going to have to paint it soon.
i'll be looking for a nice shade of dark brown, if not, i'll probably go with what i've always wanted ... Navy Blue.

its not quite immaculate, but not far from it. the orange was just a thought after someone metioned burnt orange. If I repaint, my first choice would be the green used on the SA, just not sure how that would look with rootbeer interior. I could always go to grey interior I guess. But you guys had to get me thinking about the sleeper idea, hmmmmm. tempting... nope, gotta change it, too weird having that color, especially since I have an 85 caravan that is the SAME exact color

Paint the interior with that cloth paint stuff. It works surprisingly well, actually. You can paint both the plastic interior bits and the cloth all with the same can of paint.

An 85 Caravan? Beige? Now that's one hell of a car. And you got an 85 GSL to match? You'd be crazy to paint either one of those cars, they are classics and what a pair they must make in the driveway.
Z-beater, my 85 GSL the Turd was brown on brown, first I learned to like it then I learned to love it. Do you have some photos?
Here's the Turd before a buick got a hold of her:

I will have to post some on here. I had a website but I lost the link, ha go figure! At first I did not appreciate it but through the last 3 yrs that I have owned it have lerned to love it. People always make fun of me for my color combo but I like it. Not to mention I do not have to worry about some little ricer wanting to race me.
Ray that is one clean car...too bad that it got crunched.
