my SA is my only car, and i get about 150'ish miles a tank, and i fill up about every 4-5 days, i guess i should have put 200 istead of 100, hu? but driving a car that will not be passed by another of the same year ( I see a few FBs acouple times a month) is very gratifying, espectially since I know I saved it from being crushed

Well this poll didn't get much response. I guess for most people, their 1st gens are hobby cars, not daily drivers. But just for the record, they do make great commuting vehicles and take the highway miles really well, a lot better than 20 or even 10 year old boingers. I'm casting my vote this time, my commute is 55 miles one way (that's 110 miles/day for you high school grads, 550/week for college grads), so I'm in the 500+ category. Any other high mileage experts out there?

4 miles to and from work 5 days a week. Between 5 and 20 miles on off days. I have been driving my '84 365 days a year for the past 4 years through rain, snow and heat Since she is too delicate for road trips this is mostly city driving. I get about 2 gallons per mile. Yeah you read that right. You can actually see the fuel gauge drop when the secondaries kick in.

Well, I'd like to get something that is a bit roomier, and to have the rx as a sunday driver/trackcar. Also, I do a lot of short trips with my daily driver, and the rx doesnt' like that very much... I'm thinking something like a mazda3 or something, but i need to start working again first...

Good point, RX-7s love the highway but don't like short trips much. We have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that my wife uses, it's been a fantastic car and the 3 has been highly rated, I don't think you can go wrong with one of those.
The only problem is the cost, our MP5 was about $17,000 new, whereas FBs are plentiful and relatively inexpensive - I just picked up a "back up" 84 GSL yesterday that has low mileage and in excellent condition for $1,500 and my other two GSLs cost $2,200 and $1,600. Both were in great shape and each has contributed about 30,000 miles to my commute over the last few years). It's this ten-fold differential in price that makes these old 7s cost effective commuting cars, at least when your commute is mostly highway miles.

heh... I don't know about cost effective, i currently have a lot of $ on my 7, including a new rebuilt engine, cooling system, and part of the suspension, even though it's worth it, a new car isn't too bad in my opinion because maintance would be a lot less...
