Cutaway view of RENESIS engine from NAIAS
Here's a nice cut away view of the Renesis engine. I took this picture at the North American International Auto Show yesterday. It has two seperate throttle bodies, must be staged.
You can see both intake and exhaust ports from this pic.

When I said two exhaust, three intake ports, I was referring to each rotor. I have more pics but they pretty much look the same. I wish I would have got one of the intake. There's one large throttle body that feeds the intake ports on the inside plate, and two of the ports on the outside plates. Then there's a smaller throttle body that feeds the other two ports on the outside side housings.
Don't know if they're actually polished like that on the outside.
And the center section of the header is larger than the two outside ones.

I was there all day Tuesday, that little display was sweet! What Metalli forgot to mention is that it was a moving engine, so I spent hours there explaining to various Detroiters A) what is was and B) how it worked.
I'm still searching for the correct driver to offload my digital videos of it from my friend's Sony HandiCam, and then I'm going to need someone to host it.
Every engine display is always polished, chromed, and painted to the max, so don't expect the production engine to have such gaudy internals. Heck, the Volkswagen motors had wild blue and purple accents inside the intake runners.
And I sat in both the RX-8s a lot. Words fail me for the feel that car gives. Oh, man, what I wouldn't do for 30 grand...

It was an awesome feeling just to sit inside one the 8's, wasn't it?! Unfortunately they're not to acommadating for my 6' 4" body. :-( Maybe if the stinking battery wasn't disconnected, I could've adjusted the power seats to my liking.
What day did you go to the show, I went Monday. I also couldn't resist explaining how the motor worked to many uninformed spectators. "LOOK, there's no pistons!!!", many of them said! :-)

I was there pretty much all day Tuesday. I got a free ticket from my boss (I work for a Tier-1 auto supplier) and a company minivan full of cow-orkers to make the cross-state trek in.
The only car with working power accesories that I sat in was the BMW 325i convertible. Nice, but it still couldn't compare to the racy feeling of the RX-8's cockpit.
How about that Ford GT? I drooled all over the display. If they had let me sit in it they would've had to pry me out with a crowbar.
Update: still haven't offloaded my video. Still working on it. For some reason I didn't capture the RX-8 interior, I must've not hit the damn record button hard enough in my excitement.
p.s. Nice new avatar, dude!

The Ford GT was definitely an awesome car, too bad they're only making three of them! They really made it look a lot alike the original GT 40, I thought they were going to modernize from the shows I've seen about, but they kept the classic look, which I agree with.
Did you see the ICAZ down in the basement? You know, that 590 HP 8-wheel drive electric car. I talked with one designers from KEIO University about. He said they have a conversion kit availalbe for gas powered cars. Two wheel drive, one motor for each wheel, roughly 150 hp, $10, 000. Don't think it would be worth it, but definitely interesting to see a 1st gen converted.
You like my avatar, huh. So how many times did you sit in my avatar? :-)

The rotor is different, it has a couple of new oil seals on the side of each rotor, to reduce carbon build-up, which was a new problem attributed to the exhaust ports being moved to the side housings. Also, the combustion pockets seemed to be a bit smaller, resulting in a higher compression ratio, but this is just my own speculation.
