custom sub box

I have a 1985 GSl and i have seen this done and would like full instruction on how to do it. The box behind the seat where you take out that back and rebuild it into a box. if someone knows how to do this or have a friend who knows how, please tell me. If you have plans or somethin that would be even better.
thanks,
charlie

That is some **** looking carpentry, there. Looks like it was cut with a plastic spoon or something. Can you spell v-a-c-u-u-m ?

Either mount em in the wheel well or get a solobaric surface mounted. But whatever you do, don't mangle yor **** up !!!

yo im really sorry but i would have to agree that box really sux....if u put subs in ur 7 that are actually bought at and audio shop instead of K*Mart or Wal*Mart...a good sub will tear those enclosures all to hell....for my custom system im turning the entire rear hatch into 2 MDF sealed enclosures thatll have 2 12" subs....its not that difficult to do and it shouldnt cost u much if u have the tools and can afford a $30 sheet of MDF wood....trust me dont spend money on a wasted project...spend just a little more to build it right the first time...ull thank me later....parker

i was gonna go for a custom box (fiberglassed) but realized for the time and effort it wasnt worth it im happy with my setup right now. Ill post some pictures here just for a reference that although its a big enclosure i could take it out if i wanted its easy and it doesnt slide around alot. If you dont miss the hatch space i strongly recommend doing this it whales when the subs point to the back of a hatchback you get some insane bass!

i already did 2 boxes using the whole back , the top of the box was no higher than the bottom of the rear hatch, and straight across...

they were sealed boxes, each with 2 12's.

it was amazing...i think the advantage to having 2 boxes (one closer to the rear, and one closer to the front), is that you can "tune" each box, to get maximum output, rather than all 4 subs pounding the same....

i didn't have major power to my subs, but i hit 142.6 db at a competition, this was 6 years ago.

i plan on doing the exact same thing again with my new gsl-se, except with much better subs, and better power!!! can't wait

nick what was the wattage u used....im thinking of only running 2 12" subs with 220 watt running to both of them....ive seen the whole 12w7 JL's with 1400 watt a piece inside a hatch and u couldnt breath....i dont want discomfort i just want my car to shake like a crazy bitch.....so my plan was using 2 kenwood amps that push 460x1 and running that into the 2 12" subs or using just 1 kenwood pushing 220 watt....that will still push hard enough inside a ported box to make the car shake.....

if anybody has any questions about the entire fiberglassing and what not for a custom enclosure just pm me b/c im full of great ideas for the back of the 7 as its really good for modifing...parker

Thanks for the props 1stgen_tn. Here are some pics. Sorry to say I sold the bin boxes to Rotofire and he loves them. I just settled for my fiberglass 15" enclosure. I willing to help out anyone who wants to build a custom box. I went through the hard parts already, so maybe I could help someone out.

John,

thanks for the offer on helping. I may take you up on that sometime. I've only built (1) box in my lifetime and that was just a simple square enclosure (divided for 2-10") to go in the back of a Maxima that I had. Just board, silicone sealer, and pvc for ports. Heavy as a MF...

Never done fiberglass. That is what scares me. But that helps on weight though, right?

Not much weight at all! You will still use MDF in the construction, but half as much as a full box.
