Cruise control wont work?
Is there a relay / some little box under the dash for the cruise control? i figured when i replaced the brain for the wipers/ hazards that it'd tie into that, but i was wrong. anyone know if there's anything under there in that area for it? the switch and the motor for it are both in good working order, but it still doesn't work.... I want my lazy button.

Cruise control consists of power switch in dash, actuator on right side firewall, Combo switch stalk, speed sensor on the instrument panel circuit board, clutch pedal switch, brake pedal switch and Cruise CPU under left side storage bin. The checker the FSM describes is nothing more than a bunch of continuity lights. You can use a multimeter or a test light to test the function of each component. I would start testing at the plug for the actuator. If you are getting the proper voltages through the four wires at the appropriate times, you probably need a new actuator if not you will need to test the plugs for the other components. Details in Chapter 15 section 47 in the FSM that I know you must have downloaded by now. I have found several Cruise CPUs with water damage to the circuit boards. Check these solder connections on the lower edge of the circuit board. A little cleaning can sometimes bring the system back to life.

i do have the FSM, but apparently i'm missing some pages of it. now that i look i'm missing half of the body electric page. i'll re-download it.
thanks for posting that. that's ridiculous of them to put it under the storage bin, i'll check there since i'm pretty sure something under there is unplugged.....i recall seeing something when i installed my fuel pump kill switch.

If I could just tack on a newbie question. Could someone post a picture of where the vacuum line connects to, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, lol. Just found it in the rats nest diagram in the fsm... Good place for it :-)

wow. I just realized something really dumb. the part i was messing with isn't cruise control. I was working with a little motor that attaches to the drivers side fender and runs a cable along to some of the carb linkage. I ASSUMED that was for cruise control.......... wth is that for?
i know I'm missing the vacuum line and probably the cruise control motor, then.

Hot start assist motor? Really? I thought it had something to do with the choke.
Alrighty then. That bit is going in the trash can. I don't have any of the hot start stuff hooked up. Never that hot here lol.
Anyone know how to troubleshoot the speed sensor? I swapped speedos and I'm not sure that part got hooked up properly.

Speedometer is mechanical. The cable from the tranny attaches to the back of it. I think the speed sensor gets a signal from the speedometer, but it's output goes to cruise control, AT and ECU. It's part of the meter circuit board.

Obviously knew the speedo was mechanical. I swapped a 120mph speedo from an '83 in and the part mounting and plastics were a little different. Has a little tube almost light looking piece. I just don't know if it works or not. My cruise never worked with the old speedo. Been thinking about reinstalling the system.
Usually the cruise output is a buffered vss signal. Again, how does one know if it's outputing?
