Cranks, Starts, Revs and Dies
Have an 83,12-A with a starting problem.
I spray a little starting fluid down the carb and it starts fairly quickly. I can rev it up but after about 3 to 5 seconds, the car sputters and dies. I wait about 2 or 3 minutes, spray some starter fluid and it starts again with the same results. There is fuel in the tank as I just put in 5-gallons worth.
Any ideas or can you direct me to other links that might help out?
Thanks in advance.

This happened to my SE when I was adjusting the throttle cable and forgot to tighten down a nut leading to a massive air leak between the air filter and the throttle body. Probably made the ECU think there was no air coming in, making it cut off the fuel supply

Alright, how about a scientific aproach?
Look in the little windows on the front/back of the carb and see what the fuel level is at (should be halfway full). I'm betting they are empty. Post back with results and we can go from there...

No problem. However, I will follow up with your suggestion - certainly worth a look. Also, the FB was modified to be a "IT7" type of race car and I never checked to see if the choke was removed.

It had sounded like your float needles might have been stuck. Sometimes, after sitting for a long time or after a fresh rebuild, they stick and don't allow fuel to flow into the bowls. But since you got it running, obviously that was not the issue.
