Well, I thought I would try and get the headlight chime to work again on my 82 GSL. After doing some searchinng on this forum, it pointed me in the direction of the CPU under the dash.

I removed this and re-soldered most of the connections on this board in hopes of getting some cold or broken solder joints fixed.

I realized half way through this process that there was a blown / broken Diode. D4

I then went to my spare parts bin (stripped 83 GSL)

I opened this one up and noticed the same Diode burnt to a crisp.

I'm in the process of trying to find a replacemenet Diode, but I'm thinking it's probably more than just the Diode.

I also thinking I might be wasting My time. Clearly a problem with these boards.

Are there many of you that have this chime working on your 1st gen ?

I would like to get the headlight chime working again. Went out a few years ago and now that I managed to forget and leave the parking lights on several times, it would be nice to get this working.

Well after searching for this diode on the CPU board, "E 2M" I can't find this part number / cross reference anywhere. Any Electronic wizzards on this forum ?

I don't even know if it's related to the no Chime or no seat belt buzzer. But it's odd I have 2 of these CPUs out of 2 different cars with the same blown diode. The second board from a parts car, actually has the circuit board traces burnt off in this area.

I see from the schematics that the Ocillator is part of this circuit as well. I'm going to look at that next.

My understanding from going through this forum and the diagrams I have, that there are 3 components of this system.
1. CPU (Black plastic this with relays) under dash on drivers side
2. Chime / Buzzer (mounted to intrument cluster)
3. Ocillator (mounted on drivers side under hood near the headlight / batterry area)
