Search for CP Racing, theres lots of discussion about the rack and CP. They're rep isn't too good, especially shipping out of canada.

I haven't heard much about the quality of the rack, but I have heard about the quality of the company.

The kit isn't worth it, because the actual conversion has nothing to do with decreasing the lock to lock ration. The only thing it improves is road feel, but get some new bushings and that'll help that, too.

most of their stuff is pretty good quality...as per the rack and pinion...they went from a tube steel design to box steel...I think most people find that the box steel set-up is not as nice as the tube steel...cpracing I think just modifies the VW rack and pinion...I'm sure if you were up to the challenge you could do it...if your into fabrication...on the other hand if you had the money...alot of porsche stuff fits VW's...not sure on the rack and pinion but I know theres a couple wreched porsche's not too far from me...if I were going to do it that would be the way I'd go...but I don't know if it would fit anyway...

Been running mine now for several years.I got one of the original ones, made right when they came out.Got it pretty quick too.

Its......OK.....there are some minuses, mostly minor. I have enough miles racked up on it to confirm that its safe and reliable, which should always take precedence over performance.
It most definately got rid of all the slop, and its still gone, some 40K miles later. The turning radius isnt improved, nor is the lock to lock turns. But I never have to worry about "wander-steer" again.
The binding issue went away after a month or two of driving. Its caused by the input shaft going through too much of an angle, with only 2 ujoints.I had to loosen the pinch bolts a few times and cycle the wheel,to let the shafts find their happy place on the splines. Its kinda cheesy,Id prefer it if they would fix that issue.
Other than that, its a good setup.....if a little pricey.Im glad I got it,its been so long that it feels normal to me,and I dont think about or recognize that anything is changed.

I'd recommend it,if they had any positive reputation anymore. Nowadays,I wouldnt endorse any of their products, good or bad.....simply because you'd probably never receive them after sending payment.

I actually think it's more than OK. I've had mine for a couple of years now. The feedback through the steering wheel is FAR beyond anything you can do with different bushings in the recirculating ball system. No comparison. You don't realize the car can talk like it does through the steering until you drive with a manual R&P setup. Anyone who says it's not much of a difference or not a true improvement hasn't driven an Rx-7 hard with the kit installed and should let people with actual experience do the talking.

Having said that, I totally agree that you should stay away from CP Racing. It took FOREVER to get the kit. When I got it, some hardware was missing and I was promised some money back due to overcharge and never got it dispite several promises. They really are terrible to work with.

82transam---i am referring to respeed.

i dont want to give away any details as this is billys show, not mine. he is producing some great things for our cars. anything he produces is going to be top quality. the last time i talked to him the set up wasnt finished yet, but im guessing itll be out by the end of this year. billy has AMAZING customer service. he has helped me numerous times. respeed is the best business i have yet to deal with. id buy products from him even if similar products were cheaper from another source, cause i know how much effort and time he puts into his work.

trust me guys, this isnt going to be like the CP kit, it goes even farther AND its cheaper. you best believe ill be buying one of these as soon as i get that call from billy letting me know theyre complete.

billy-- i dont know if you were wanting to keep the craddle hush hush or not, if so, sorry man. i wasnt sure, but i figured id get the 1st gen guys curiousity going
