Cowl hood

Is there any place that sells a cowl hood for a first gen RX7 because I put a V8 in it and stock is not high enough? Thanks

Don't think so. Cut a big hole in the hood and buy a cowl from Summit.

What kind of V8? How much power? How are you putting it to the ground?

Ohhh, boy...Oh, boy...

Take the hood off completely, and mount a high-rise scoop like the old hot-rodders did in the fifties and sixties. Don't forget to hang fuzzy dice from the mirror, and that 8-ball gearshift ****. Now, what to do about all that nose weight? Maybe a Pontiac GTO/Chevelle front suspension to keep the wheels from splaying. One good thing, with that super light RX-7 rear you won't need wheelie bars. You'll never get the traction lift the front end, just spin the skins off'n that bomb!

Joshin' aside....Why'd you swap mills? You've upset the balance of the vehicle, and it must take ten sailors haulin' on the bowline to get you around a curve, not to mention dropping anchor to stop. If you want a Nova or a Dart, get one...

Unhappy

if you don't need ALOT of clearance you can try and graft a TII scoop on.

of course you prolly need more space than that. Summit / Jegs prolly have cowls/scoops that you can have grafted onto the stock hood.

Enjoyin his heroin-addicted bees,

Hi 1stGenRacer
I've got a 5.0 in mine, managed to get it under the stock hood. I'm curious to know what you end up with. What engine did you use? Trans?
Denny, You'd be surprised how small the handling difference is. The rotary is a bit heavier than the eye would have you believe, and the 5.0 Ford is not as heavy as you would think. It's not at all like a V-8 Pinto or Vega that wouldn't go around a corner nose first on a bet. Don't knock it 'til 'ya try it, Ol' Boy!

I own two 1st gen rx7s and one needed a new engine so I figured that I would try something unique in my one. I am putting a ZZ4 350 that is emmisions legal into it with a used T-5 transmition. I just wanted to feel the power of a V8 in my RX7. The other needs work but I do not know of any sites that sell rotary engine performance upgrades so if anyone knows of any, please reply. Also does anyone know of any cheap emissions legal V8 crate engines for under 4000? Thanks

Swappin' to a V-8 Boinger

Believe me, I've got utmost respect for you Wrenchin' Boys who have the ***** to pull off a swap. The mechanics of doin' it is really quite admirable...
I just think that the rotary engine is half the magical mystery of the RX-7, and to dump it for a V-8, or any other kind of boinger just rubs me sort of side-saddle...It's funny, I don't feel that way about droppin a spinner into a MG, or any other kind of car. And I wouldn't feel bad about seein' a V-8, or V-6 in a Protege, or even a Miata...But pullin' a spinner for a pushrod boinger???? Damn boys, it just ain't right in my guts....

Still, best to yuh...
Stay low outta the radar...

I bought a cowl hood at a swap meet to fit on my car for $40, its pretty thick fiberglass. I had to trim it a TON to get it to fit the curvature of the RX-7's hood. I cut the entire area underneath it away and cut all the bracing away. my hood now weighs less than half of what it did before. I removed all the latches and it is now a lift off hood with 4 pins holding it in. It was easy to mount and sand the scoop.
