corner seals

I'm rebuilding my 12A and going with a weber 48 IDA fed street port.

My question is: Should I go with the corner seals that have the Viton plug insert or the solid corner seals?

What is the major advantage of solid over the plug design?

not a big deal. i would go with stock corner seals with stock springs and inserts.
i mean come on, these are the parts that always last 200k with no problems.
mazda put a lot of r & d into this stuff.
fd's use the solids and they always blow up.

FDs blow because of the turbos and heat issues. Has nothing to do with the corner seals or springs. The FD corner seal springs are better, that's why they changed them. I use them and the solid seals.

I've got the FD corner seal springs. I'm still unclear as to the actual design advantage of solid. As I understand it, the pressure of the gasses flow underneath the apex seals causing them to seal against the housing and that the springs actually do their work closer to idle. The corner seal plugs help seal at idle as well but I was wondering about the theory behind the design of solid vs. plug.

Just use solids, because you can, stop being a little bitch about things, everything doesn't have to be justified.

In the long run, iirc, the solids end up being cheaper too.

The reality of it is that in the engine that you are building, there will never be a discernable difference between the two. Go with whatever is easier or less expensive for you. Personally, I would lean towards using the FD springs under whichever corner seals that you choose, but even there you'll probably never experience a noticeable benefit.
