Coolant Level Sensor

I have coolant leaking out of the top of my radiator, the dealer wants $45 for a new one!!! My dad took my car to the radiator shop that I had it re-cored at since it never leaked before(just didnt work for ****). Well, they told him that I would need to buy a new coolant level sensor and put it in, no f*cking way, I'm a poor highschool student, its not worth $45. Is it fine to just take it out and just plug it somehow? I was thinking that I could just take the little wire off the top and cover the piece in epoxy. Is there a better way to plug it? They also told him that there is some stop-leak in my radiator. After the radiator was re-cored, I ran lots of water through the system before I put the radiator in and put the new hoses on. What is the best way that I can do myself to get rid of all the stop leak in it?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I just bought 2 of them. One for my 88 vert and one for my 85.. BTW: i got both of them for an 88.. Theres is no difference inthem... I paid $18 for both sensors and the seals... Tell the dealer to get off their *** and find the right part...

I think I got the caps that my new radiator came with their little wing bolts, but for the trouble and how cheap the sensor is suppose to be. Just order new ones...

The sensor in mine got loose, backed out. leaked boiling coolant time and time again. The hot coolant actually melted the plastic threads on the sensor and I was in the same spot u are.

Bought a 1/2" NPT tap and tap, cutting oil, and 1/2" NPT bolt and wide washer from Ace hardware. Drained all the coolant and took radiator hoses off. Poured the cutting oil in the little hole and retapped that mother ****** to 1/2" NPT. Flushed radiator down and up many times. Put copious amount of JBweld on the bolt threads and threaded it in there smooth as butter. It never came out after a few years of use. DONE. Sold that nice 3-row core rad to Gonzz last weekend $75!

Why is there stop-leak in a rocored radiator?

That **** seeks out nooks and crannies (holes in your rad, but also bits of your coolant jacket in the engine) and plugs it. In the rad, that's good. In the engine, that's bad.

I'm also confused a bit; the rad leaks after they fixed it and they're telling you to get a new sensor? If the coolant was too ful it should have just bubbled over in the reservoir, not sprung a leak in the rad. I'd make 'em fix their 'repair'. On the surface of things it sounds like poor soldering.

Yeah, I was thinking that the RAD place kinda f*cked me too. My old radiator had a bunch of stop leak in it from the previous owner of my car, but it didnt leak anywhere. I drained the system and took the radiator in to be re-cored. I ran lots of water through the system while the radiator was off, and after I put the new one on, trying to make sure I got all of the old stuff out of it. Now it leaks out of the coolant level sensor, and they're telling me that there is stop-leak in it, no f*cking way. I havnt dealt with this place at all yet, it is near my dads work so he has been the one to take it there to get things done. I think I'm gonna take it up there tomorrow and see wtf is going on, they better fix it for free, they caused it to leak there. I don't plan on ever doing business with these people again, they just seem like a bunch of money hungry ********. Also, for the people that live near me, the place is called Arrow Radiator and is located near Hilliard.
