Coolant leak, don't know where it's coming from.

The radiator keeps sucking all of the water in the reservoir tank and I'm losing the water somewhere below the oil cooler (mounted below the oil filter). The problem is that I can’t see exactly where the leak is (its obviously not a huge leak). I'm guessing its one of the coolant hoses down there, but it almost looks like its coming out between the rear housing and 2nd rotor housing. Is that likely? I thought the side of the engine usually only leaks oil, not water. I hope it's just a hose. Does any one have any experience with this?

Thanks.

Its possible. The whole outside of the engine is where the coolant travels.. Ive never heard one leaking through the outter coolant seal. But I guess its possible. Id clean it up really good and make sure its not one of the hoses below the oil cooler they are notorious for doing this...

That sounds like the inner rotorhousing ring. When they burst, it will drink coolant and the combustion pressure will send the coolant to the resivor and flood over it.

You know, I could have worded my first post better...The reservoir tank was being emptyed out, not over flooded.

But, good news....I cleaned the area real well then started it up and found the leak! It is the hose that goes to the firewall after it T's off from where it connects to the engine. I'll drive over to Mazdatrix tommorow and pick up new hoses. I'm so glad thats all it was

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah you know thats GREAT. But honestly has anyone ever seen an outter coolant ring go bad? All I ever hear about is the inner one?
