converting 4 lug to 5 in the rear

Ok I bet this thread has been covered a million times but I cannot search at work here for some reason.

I have a 1979 and have all the parts to convert the front to the large 86 up style brakes and 5 lug hubs.

my question is..... what do I do with the rear end.

I want matching 5 lug wheels on all 4 corners. but I am unable to locate a Gxl 85 year rear end that has them.

what are my options for this ...

can I use a spacer that goes up to 5 lug from the current 4???

can I install different axel shafts in the current rear end???

also I am in washington state so if anyone has a rear end let me know.

let me know

Moser 5 lug axles for the big bearing rear ends 84-85. I have a brand new pair sitting right behind me, going in as some as my bearings and seals get here. Respeed sells them.

Are these direct swap? or would you need different components, such as 5 lug brake rotors and stuff?

They are not a direct swap since you have a 79. The Moser axles are made for the later big bearing rear ends, no way to use them with the smaller bearing rear end. You need to get your hands on a complete rear end from a 84 or 85 along with the driveshaft to make them work. Also, you could use original brakes, but Respeed also sells a kit to convert the later TII 5 lug rotors and calipers to be used on a 1st gen, worth the investment if you ask me.

get the respeed axles. here they are on my car. theyre being swapped onto another chasis. i should be done with that swap today or tomorrow. then theyll be new pics.

just find yourself any 84-85 disc rearend. GSL or GSLSE will work.
