convert to manual steering

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased an 84 GSL. It has power steering and a/c but I want to remove both. I like manual steering much better and I don't need a/c since the windows work and the sunroof is huge! I'm gtrying to save weight as well.

The car has a header with a full exhaust and springs and shocks.

What would I need to make this conversion?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

You basically just remove everything, and then for where the oil comes out and feeds in on the box around the steering, you just get a hose that loops it around. Alot of people say that using it like that is better than using a manual steering.

Relocating the alternator hmm ... there was someone that used to sell a relocation kit to mout it on the side where the AC/PS area sit .. but unsure who it was. If you do a search you should be able to pull it up easily. But like I said I don't think they still sell that kit.

I have two full non power steering systems I could sell you. The one in my car has about 10-15mm play in the wheel The stock spec is 10mm of play i don't think you could get a better gear box used for cheap. Not sure about the one on the parts car. Never drove it since it's just for parts

Iirc, it's Pineallpe Racing that sells the alt relocate kit. As for the ps, the ghetto way is to loop the lines on the steering sector, then remove the pump.

OR you could just shell out the cash (which you probably will in the future anyway) for the RE-Speed rack and pinion conversion. I'll have mine before Nikki (that's right, I named her finally, and after the carb too ) gets back on the road in the spring.
