confused?
I have a 82 GSL lsd disc brake rear axle and I wanna put it in a 85. I wanna know all the problems I will come across in this swap. What parts will I have to buy, it doesn't have any handbrake cables and I m not sure about the proportioning valve what does it look like and where could I find it to see if I have one. I did do a search and it seems like everyone is in a different situation. I want to have everything I need bought and in my hands before I turn any wrenches.

Not a problem. All are interchangable among all years as complete assemblies. The bearing size change in '84 limits bare housing interchangability to pre-'84 and post-'83. Further, backing plates attach with four bolts on drum brake cars and 3 bolts on disk brake cars, further limiting bare housing interchangability. All '84-5 disk brake axle housings carry the same FA58-26-020 part number.

You need the axle assembly, brake lines, e-brake cables and the drive shaft, off of the 85. Remove the old, replace with the newer. I suggest new brake lines, instead of re-using the old ones. It really is that simple. Getting the bolts out of the upper and lower links can be a fight sometimes. Spray everything with a healthy dose or 2 of P B Blaster the day before you start.
