Cone filter

Anyone out there using a cone filter on their 1st gen? I'd like to hear more about the setup, ie; what brand, anything need to be fabricated, adaptable to a cold air intake (poor man's), where to buy, and is it much of an upgrade from a reg. KN in the cannister

Why do you want to use a cone filter?

I've heard the cone filter is a better set up with a cold air intake -maybe I'm way off base here but I currently have a cold air intake set up to the snorkle and I've heard the cone works better.

The cone on the CAI must be placed out of the engine bay to be effective....where did you plan on installing yours? I don't think the fenders have enough room in them. I am in the middle of making a CAI with the K&N cannister. I have a 3" pipe running down to the pass. side of the radiator and through the sheetmetal. I still have to cut the hole, but I'm getting close. Do a search for Pittdp and look through his posts, I'm doing the same set-up. If I find the link, I'll post it.

I have a similar set up to this in place now - only difference is I moved my coolant overflow to the strut tower to make room for a 4" hose ( I used 4" aluminum flex hose) - looks like Pitt left his where it was (Pitt, nice engine bay by the way) - It works well unless its a cool damp day and then I get icing problems

I've heard of a cone filter set up that allows you to fab on a cold air intake and do away with the cannister set up - I've never seen it, only heard people talking about it - maybe's it's a myth.

Thanks for the response

Look at the 2nd gen's and see if you can copy that. I've never seen a gen2 engine bay, so I couldn't tell you.
