Common parts interchangeablity questions

I see alot of posts asking about parts interchangeabilty of parts between years.

Your best resources are the following.
www.mazdatrix.com
www.rockauto.com
www.blackdragon.com (get their catalog)
www.cskauto.com
www.napaonline.com
www.autozone.com
www.mazdaautoparts.com
Then there is the factory parts catalogs Via link from trochoids homepage.

That's all you have to do is look up the parts and compare parts numbers for years.
Mazdatrix is probably the easiest to do.

And yes their is interchangeabiltiy that is not in the parts catalogs.
Basically all 79-85 M/T starters are interchangable.
80-85 alternators are interchangeable
Electronic dist are are interchangeable for all 79-85
Front mount oil coolers are interchangeable for all 79-85 whether replacing existing one or upgrading from Beehive.
Radiators from 79-82 all interchange. Can also be used in 83-85 models.
There are some small mods when doing the above but everything can be found by using the search tool. All of these interchangeability parts have been covered many times over.

Doc, good info. BTW, the last link is bad for www.mazdaatuoparts.com, its a typo and should be www.mazdaautoparts.com. Keep up the good work.

Be careful with the electronic distributors. 81 thru 85 are the same, with the igniters in the dizzy. The 1980 dizzy has a separate box for the igniters, with different igniters than the later ones.

Let me clarify this for those who do not know.

I should of stated it this way. You can use the 81-85 electronic dist in any 79-85 engine whether it is a 12a or 13b.
