Clutch Issues

Alright I don't know whats wrong with it but, when I'm driving at 30 or any speed just cruising around and floor it the RPMS rise and drop and then the speed increases. I'm pretty sure the clutch is just not holding up. Or is gone, vamose, adios, bye bye. I have a streetport, dellorto manifold, mikuni carb, headers to a full custom exhaust, elec. fan, no rats nest, and possibly a light flywheel(wraps out superfast). What kind of Clutch do I need guys? Any help would be very greatful.

I imagine there's something about this in the FAQ... If there isn't, there should be

Does sound like your clutch is fried though.

You need an act 4 puck disk with either mazdatrix street/strip press. plate, or act , clutchmasters, exedy street press plate.

Yapa - a quick test for clutch wear is to drive at about 40mph on the freeway in 4th gear and then put the accelerator to the floor. If the RPM's rise, but the vehicle speed doesn't - you need a new clutch.

This is because 4th gear has a 1:1 drive ratio to the rearend, and when your clutch starts to go, it can't carry the torque of your engine in 4th gear at this vehicle speed and translate that to acceleration. Instead, it spins the clutch disk in the pressure plate since your clutch disk is worn.

If your clutch pressure plate is in good shape (most are, just need a new disk), then you might consider just going with a Mazda Factory clutch disk. Mazdatrix and RB both agree that the stock clutch disk is good up to about 250 hp. For the money, you get a lot of performance, and you don't have to worry about the linings coming off the plate with shoddy aftermarket stuff. HTH,
