Clear Tail-lights and Indiglo?

A Friend of mine came by today telling me he recently saw real clean 85 GSL with Altezzas (Clear/Lexus type) tailights and a full set of Indiglo gauges at the street races last week.

As far as I know, those lights and guages are not available for first gens.

Am I wrong? I have never seen them on a First Gen. and don't know what they would look like. I usually don't like the look of Altezzas except for certain silver cars, which I do happen to like - (Like the Ford Lightning in Silver)

I have seen white-face gauges (a'la Joses Reyes) online, but I have never seen a good picture of them lit up at night.

I am curious to see what they look like. I love the classic tailights of the Rex, and I REALLY love the orange "cockpit" of the 84/85's, but since I will paint my grey SE to a Silver widebody...

...I wouldn't mind being unique..

Does anybody have any pics of Indiglo gauges (at night maybe) and Clear tailights on a First Gen? How about LED lights?

Thanks in advance.

The only clear tailights I have seen for a first gen where hand made by a member of this forum.

Several members here have white faced guages and can tell you better what they look like at night.

(BTW, you can get a T2 jspec from www.fc3s.org or www.corksport.com)

you can get proper rx7 gauge backs from NOPI online about 100, or reyes does them or just scan in the dails and do it yourself. I've done mine, the last to get indiglow, is to go to the autoparts store and buy the proper blue instrument bulbs, this means figuring your stock part numbers, then matching them closely to whatever they offer, you have to the dash out so just swap the bulbs. not to hard. The altezza's were likely homemade also.
not hard just chincey looking. just pull of the smoked covers-replace the red lenses with clear plastic, replace the orange with the same but you have to make it curve, i'd just bend it an epoxy the stuff over the slot. now you have clear lenses, with silver plastic bezels. Place a suitably shaped piece of the red lense you just ripped off into the silver bezel and epoxy again, bing chincey *** altezza tails. PS your friend likely saw them from enough of a distance that they looked clean, however i garauntee the ones he saw were crappy assembliges of a similar style to the above listed.

also you could cut your silver bezels and place round elements inside, closer to the actual altezza style but never the properly molded plasti chrome bezeling the aftermarket provides with their altezza lights.

clear tails is easy... just take the color film out. simple, eh? all they are is clear lenses with a color film inside.

whether this "mod" looks good is subject to hot debate. i believe it looks "very crappy", but i pass this information along so that other people can make their own decisions.

I think clear tail lights are a gay benchmark of a ricers car. Peejay, I agree with your view. Put your clear tail lights on honda's and ford Focus's.

I'd actually like the indiglo gauges.. Not Blindingly Bright though... Just evenly backlit, not bright where the bulbs are and dimmer elsewhere.

Okay..They DO Look like **** on a stick.

Again, I don't know if that's the look my friend saw though. I will email him this page for him to let me know if that's what it looked like.

I am sure he saw them at night though..As he was at the street races.

Anybody got pics of the indiglo's?

Ok guys...call me crazy if you want, but i swear on a stack of bibles that i saw someones website that had homemade clear altezza style lights. He had pics of them (not in a car) and they actually looked pretty nice. I think that if they were true altezza style like these were, (preparring for flammage) they may not look that bad. I have always kinda liked the back end of an eclipse with clear altezza lights all the way across, if you could kinda create that on a 7 i think it would be sweet. Maybe with an LED "RX-7" in the middle (where nothing is now) that matches the badges on the fenders so it looks kinda sporty...kinda like a cyclopse light...anyone seeing this too? Oh well, just my opinion...

~T.J.

PS - BTW, if anyone makes that LED "RX-7" or any variation of it, I WANT CREDIT FOR IT!! I'm actually thinking of making one myself, when I do ill show you all what I mean

Ok...Please excuse the shotty photoshop work, but I think if you look at this youll get what im looking for with the LED "RX-7"...Not bad for my first try...Any comments on the idea are very welcome...please let me know what you think. Also, I invision this with clearer lenses and a higher quailty altezza light look, but you should get the idea...

~T.J.

PS - If I start making these in a kit form (IE - new clear center piece and the light board), would any of you be interested in buying them?

I'm sure you could get it to look pretty good with a bit of development but it's too ricey for me. I prefer the look of tinted tail-lights anyway.

ok first thing. isnt the point of having a wing on the back of a car supposed to be to creat downforce n the back? corect me if im wrong, butisnt that one above ith the crrappy clear lenses tilted the wrong way? I would hate to run that car at spee and take a corner. I can just see the *** end getting a bit light and loose.

Second, SMNC (hope I got te name right) I love your dash. You just showed m what my next project is. How hard was it to hook up? could yo PM me with the details?

third. RotorMotor, I hope hat isnt your car I just was baggin on. If it is and you like it that is all that matters. dont listen to me and my criticisim. you own it nt me.
