Clear Lenses for 1st Gen
I found a company in Australia that will do the front bumber lenses, rear lenses, and tail lights but since he has not done them before he will need at least 10 orders of each. Here are the prices.....
hello Jose,
bumper lenses are US$22 each,
rear side markers are US$22 each
tail lenses are US$68 each,
as we have not domne these previosly, we would need an order for 10 of each
unit to cover tooling costs.
Here is their link....So if any one is interested maybe we could get a group buy for these items...
http://www.tailights.com/
I have an 1982 Mazda RX-7, US Built, and I would like to have the front
>bumper lenses, the rear side markers, and the tail lights converted to
clear
>lenses. What will the cost of this be. Looking at your Website, you can
>reproduce just about any models.

When I inquired to the US postal service regarding shipping a box weighing 8 pound it was some like 19.00 dollars by ship and 35.00 by air. Ships take about 4 to 6 weeks air 8-15 days....
I figure that this lenses do not weight more than 8 pounds....
But then again, if we order 10 sets of each then it coud go beyond the 8 pounds... but just to give you an idea of the shipping cost.
We could go the shippest route of surface mail (meaning by ship)...

How about the front side markers? Arent they identical to the rear ones but yellow instead of red?
Also what exactly do you meen by tail-lenses, just new clear taillight lenses that dont have a red reflector in the middle?
I might be interested

Correct, they will be clear, without red, nor yellow, jsut clear. You will need to use color bulbs with them. red bulbs and yellow bulbs..
The front side markers I believe it to be identical as the back with the execption of the color....That's why I figure just ask for the rear side markers price.....
Also, they can be manufactured with the clear see through or the just white look.
I would prefer the clear clear lenses, the one that you can see through and see the bulbs....
I guess we could make a pole to see what others might think..
Clear lenses VS white lenses, by white I mean regular colorless but not see through lenses....

w/ the clear ones couldn't you paint the insides of the light houings the color of your car (say yellow if your car was yellow) and they would match better but still shine the color you need when on?
I havn't looked at the inside of a light or blinker recently.... are they a reflective material? if so... you might no be able to do that but donno *shrug*
I would vote for clear... and might be interested myself... as long as it would work on a 85.... isn't the 82 different from the 85 when it comes to lights?

The 81 through 85 have the same identical bumper, sides, and rear tail lights. The only ones that would not fit will be the 79-80....
If you paint the inside of the lenses to match the color of your car, which can be done, You would not have the red light come through and you need to have red lights on the back for the brakes....at night...

so your saying for 138$ plus shipping i get 6 clear plastic parts...nope i can make it cheaper and faster with light cover mat.and for 138$ i still have to break my lights open and swap the lenses

A better route to go might be to go buy a Honda, maybe a late model Civic, Accord or Prelude....
...but seriously, why would you want to put clear lenses on these classic cars? Those clear lenses look so so bad.
Got rice bitch?

These are expensive, but they will be fabricated as the originals execpt they will be clears...I understand what you are saying. Hey, We can prbably do them sheaper but they won't be like the originals....

Yeah if we could find a place that could do a whole set of clears, bumpers, front & rear sidemarkers and taillenses for around 80-100 id def be in. I am sure theres a place in the US that can do this, you just gotta look at domestic restorers websites & stuff.

I would like to sign up for the clear kit.
In defence for the clears and their drivers I would like to speak up.
This is just another automotive trend. Not unlike wood panel wagons of the 70's. Although we can unbolt the lights. Personally the clear lenses are rather more attractive than those dated amber flashers. Mazda did a fine job on creating a timeless design. We would like to modernize a little, that's all. Nobody got up in arms about Badass's headlight mod nor that purple FB with the Porsche kit from Canada. I can not see a difference here. It is all a matter of preference. (side note. I am looking for a new computer and I am checking out the PC and Apple computers. It seems that it all comes down to preference.) Yes the clear lense trend was made popular by the rice crowd but I can't group all clear lensers into the same rice catagory. I saw a Lexus with clears from the factory, I believe. Quite elegant while displaying a bit of flash. Like a little black dress and a diamond necklace. Not every color RX-7 would look good in clears and I am sure we can all imagine such a car . With out dragging this different strokes for different folks rant any longer I will step down from the soapbox and take a bow.

In my opinion, the aforementioned headlight mod and especially the Porsche body kit are awesome because they are unique and demonstrate a great deal of creativity and/or neat fabrication skills.
The clear lights are played-out because they have become the stereotypical signal of rice, similar to altezza-style tail lights and 20 inch wheels on economy cars. There is nothing particularly unique about them; if "modernizing" our cars is your intention, why not be more creative about it? Don't just follow everyone else, your car will be less unique.
I'm not saying that clears don't look nice, just that they are common and I could think of better things to do with a hundred bucks.
Just my opinion.

Thanks Richard,
Now for those of you guys who are interested the company has agreed to start with the front bumper lenses first. Once they do the molds they will ship me a sample set and I can put them in my car and take pictures and post them on my Website for you guys to see and if you like them then we could order a set of ten.
This seems more reasonable since a set of lenses for the front would only be 44.00 dollars not counting shipping. So I will keep you posted. If anything I am willing to purchase the 10 sets for the front myself once I see the final product. More to come....

the clears would be easy to do. that is all and for our cars it would be different. I would like to have seen the ribs on the taillights removed and the lens in a red plastic. or maybe some lailight covers in the smoked varity. what about taking ques from the RX-EVOLV and use neon for the tailights. perhaps a corvette round light job not my taste but it could be done.
small confession. I am begining to like a few of the rice mods. I can't stand the wings or the snow plow air dams. but the clears and a few small stickers representing actual products on the car is ok. I am still undecided on underbody neon. maybe on a show car but not on the grocery getter.

clear lights would be ok on a black rex, mine is white so i wouldn't bother putting clear lenses on a white car. Anyway when i bought my car the previous owner spraypainted the inside of the lenses black so that only those little circles light up, and it looks really cool at night and i guess its pretty original, unless i'm the only stupid *** that thinks they look cool
