cleaning a gas tank.
How could you clean a gas tank?
I remember jeremy's thread on this but I couldnt find it.
I was thinking.
1. Remove tank (duh)
2. Pour in like 4 bottles of seafoam (evertime I put this in my tank my filter clogs up so I know its removing gunk).
3. Pour in some gas.
4. Add some rocks
5. Seal it and shake it around.
6. Shake it around again with just gas a few time to rinse the crap out.
What do you think?
I am not looking to make my tank perfect. I will probably get a fuel cell later on if my tank is in too bad of shape.

I have used denatured alcohol before and it works pretty well. Denatured alcohol is a solvent that will break down the dark tarry stuff that builds up.
Here in Washington every winter we get gas with alcohol in it. It cleans everyone's tanks so well the fuel filters clog and people's car die on the side of the road.
So, put a gallon in an empty and removed tank, with the fittings plugged, and shake and swish. Let it sit for an hour and do it again. Keep doing this all afternoon and the dump the contents.
Once you are done cleaning it, that sealant that Initab is suggesting would be a good idea.
Good luck

what is in it? if its rust or corrosion you'll need to take it to a radiator shop to have it cleaned and lined. if you do try rocks MAKE SURE they are small. otherwise it will take you forever to get those 1 or 2 back across the baffle (don't ask). they make sealers you can use but they are mainly sized for motorcycles and to do our tank is $$$ so a radiator shop wins the contest. if its light crap i would just run some fuel system cleaner as that **** will eat your skin off. if you don't believe me change your filter with that in the gas.
here's the old thread too. you can call this a last resort to make it to an autox 4hrs away.

If you use that sealer stuff. Make sure your tank is really really really clean. If there is any rust of trash in it i would not recomend using it. When i bought my car some one had used it in the tank and not cleaned it well enough. The sealer had flaked off over time and is no a total mess. Its like having to clean up twice as much rust.

I just want to clean the tank. I am setting up my fuel system and I figured I would flush it out and maybe paint it while I was down there. It seams like my filet
I wont be using the stock style filter any more. I told the guy I wanted the biggest factory fuel filter with a 5/16 hose end. He gave me this huge ford filter.
I wont have to change that thing for a year.
Then I just got the basic carter and Holley reg.
What is the pressure for the Nikki? its 3.5psi, right?
I dont have a pressure guage I from what I hear, most of them suck. I figure I start about halfway and go up. Until I find the right mixture.
