Choke Question
The choke for the 85' doesn't close, so it's pretty difficult getting it started. If you pull the choke **** out, the choke can be closed manually. It opens on its own when the **** is pushed back in. Eventhough I have searched the forum, checked the Hayes manual and 85 FSM I still haven't been able to fix this problem. Any ideas on what this choke problem might be?

Exactly, but when the choke is pulled is doesn't not close like it should. The only way it will close is if you pop the lid on the air cleaner and close it by hand (that's what I meant by manually). Inside the car, if you push the choke **** back in the choke opens, as it should, but will not close if the choke is pulled, after. So the problem is the choke doesn't close when the choke is pulled.

Ah, ok, that makes more sense now. Start with checking the choke cable freeplay and the rest of the related linkage. Have you had any of it apart? If you've had it apart, you may not have positioned the tab at the end of the choke shaft inside the choke heater correctly. Page 33 of the carb manual in the Theory and Opertion section has a diagram of it.

All I've done so far is adjust the choke cable to see if that would help the problem with no success. Not much freeplay. If I move the linkage by hand, the choke will close as long as the choke is pulled. I'll have to check out that diagram. Thanks.
