Chefasaurus Rex is concieved....

Well, as many of you know, I am in the build process and planning/saving of a 4-rotor for Project Chefasaurus Rex. (For those of you wondering about Project Bubba Jr., have no fear, he'll be out and about soon.)


I just ordered 4 new rotor housings.... @379.65 EACH.


Here's a list of everything else I need to buy.... and a tally sheet for those of you keeping track at home:

    * = price not researched yet.

    Driving around the ONLY n/a, carbed, STREET LEGAL, 4-rotor in North America, and hitting 264 mph @ Bonneville.... PRICELESS.




    You all may pass it off as "Chef and his pipe dreams", but we'll see what kind of pipe dreams they are after next August, when Chefasuarus Rex takes the title as the fastest street driven rotary in the country.

    BTW, if any of y'all have "hookups" and deals for this stuff, or better prices than what I've listed, please let me know. I am looking to have this all done by May., July at the latest.


    If it's possible to get some sponsorships for this project, I'd appreciate anything y'all have....

    Right now, I'm looking at well over 30 grand.... in parts alone.

    it just occured to me that I didn't post what it's going into....


    it's an 82 GSL. The engine will be built from parts intended for an 85 12A, times 2.

    Dude, you should name it "Project Infinite Budget". No doubt you will have the most bad-assed N/A around. Racing beat's record of 238.442MPH still stands from 1986, and that was GT/Production/Blown. A N/A at 264 is going to own all. Good luck, and hope to see your name in the record books.

    It has to be long enough for all 4 rotors, so its probably being custom made, and probably more than one piece...

    right now, in parts alone, it's well over 30K. (that's before shipping on all of it).


    the e-shaft is coming from Pineapple, and it's a one-piece, unless Don Marvel @ MarvelSpeed can hook me up cheaper.


    again, any sponsorships or hookups will recieve mucho recognition!


    It's likely to be getting a full bridgeport.

    I figured the custom made part. I'm also a bit spoiled as, back when I was in the military, we'd machine custom stuff all day long (if I was posted base-side as opposed to field ops) and if it was slow, like the El Nino winter I spent on an Air Force base, we'd make stuff for our own vehicles or for buddy we owed a favor to.

    Incidentally these favors were known as 'rabbits', god knows why... but in the forces, as with any organization, there was that you-scratch-my-back-etc. comraderie where I'd make some special part for, say, a weapons tech, and he'd make sure my rifle alway went through random inspection in weapons lockup factory-clean, whether I thoroughly cleaned it after that long trek through the field or not.

    Long post short, a bulletin came out announcing 'no more rabbits' the day I NEEDED a bracket welded onto a valve cover for my Audi (put a 5000 series engine into a 4000 series car). I took the valve cover over to the materials techs and told one of the guys what I needed. He said "well, we were told not to do any more rabbits..." then winked and said "But this is going into an Audi, not a Volkswagen, so I won't tell if you don't".

    This forum is the closest I've seen to such comraderie since I got out..

    Haha, thats cool Manntis. Also, Im glad that you feel that we are a good group of people. I try to help out when I can .

    1)seeing that you have the money to do all of this why not go efi?

    2)why 2 trannies?

    3)why 3mm apex seals? I would think that 2mm ceramic would be more ideal for an n/a application.

    Seriously, Chef, you have our whole-hearted enthusiasm here in the 1st gen community. Please keep us posted, and we'll lend what meager support we can. Some of us have money-pit turbo projects and some of us scrounge for usable tires, but many of us have this in common: we dream.     Seriously though, I have dreams that far exceed my finacial capabilities...As do most of us, but mine right now is just making some damn oil cooler lines, lol. Oh well, some day, some day . Id say Im one of the scrounging for decent tires, and pulling change from the center console for gas type of people right now, lol. Whats funny though, is that I would still be willing to loan out my last dollar to help someone in need...Which is why I like this place so much, a few of you out there (maybe more) are just as willing to help someone in need (you know who you are), and there are no words to describe that kind of kindness. Thanks guys .

    I feel that. I had a pair of tire get so bad, I couldn't go 30mph in the rain or it would hydro-plane. RX7club should pass a collection hat type thing. If Chef takes paypal, everyone should donate $2.00. You figure if the home page says there are 20,000 members or what ever, even if 1/3rd of them throw in $2, he will have over 6 grand. Maybe he can put a RX7club.com logo on his car so everyone can see it while he is approaching the sound barrier.

    As far as my job.... heheheh.... well, I seriously have the BEST job in the world. I'm the chef at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house on IL Wesleyan Univ. campus. 50-75 girls all paying me, and fawning over me to do what I know. Life is good.

    jeremy, yes, you can have a ride.

    And as far as the questions about the apex seals, I have reconsidered, and am now going with 2mm, 3 piece, Steel ones. (I'm avoiding ceramic for the plain reason that it still has to be streetable.)

    The need for 2 trannies is because one will be geared for acceleration (i.e. Street, strip, track), whereas the other one will be geared for all out top end (Bonneville). I wish it was as easy as just pushing a button and saying, ok, boom, you've got a new gearset. For some reason, that ain't likely to happen.


    There have been some questions and a debate on another forum (CII), and they have been discussing my decision to go carb. Apparently, they are claiming the fact that EFI may be cheaper, but then I'd hafta get a Haltech, and even then, the Haltech might not run it. Carbs are simple. change a jet if you run rich, change a jet if you run lean. Obviously there is more to it than that, but you guys get my point.

    I am trying to keep this OLD SKOOL. and besides... how cool will it be to say that I hit 264 in a carbed rex?



    BTW, I like your paypal idea... Chef needs all the dollars he can get.
