Hey Pratch, to keep this post politically correct. If I where to build another rx-7 site, what emulator do you use? Out of curriosity, what editor you use? I am a Macromedia and Adobe freak myself.

Well, I use both GoLive and Dreamweaver for rough tabling but always go into BBEdit (my text editor of choice) to clean up the code. There are far too many design requirements to list that are needed to keep a site looking consistent across version 3+ browsers and 7 different operating systems.
My favorite code-compliant browser is IE 5.2 on the Mac. The one I use daily to browse the web is Safari (Konquest-based).
As for emulation, on the PC side, you don't get much in the way of choice. There are one or two Mac emulators for the PC, but they won't (last I checked) emulate higher than Mac OS 8.1.
I use Connectix (now MS) Virtual PC with windows installs of 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP with browsers 3.0 and higher installed. I'm also building a PC for gaming that I'll likely use in lieu of launching the emulator.
As with anything, the hardest part of multi-OS/multi-browser compatability is actually taking the time to check your displaying in numerous browsers. Last time I bothered counting, I launched something like 70 browsers total, spread across those 7 Operating systems. It's no fun, but when done early enough in the design process, you eliminate a lot of the problems and you learn to anticipate how, say IE 6 on XP is going to butcher your tabling.
Been doing web design since pre-editor days and I've always thought that the browser wars were a waste of time. Just another headache on designers when browser A supports feature Y, but browser B supports feature Y as if it were really feature X...
Gah, headache all over
drop me a pm, and we can take this off-board if you want more info.
To anyone wanting to enter web design now, look forward to lots of headaches if you care enough to cross-platform/browser your code. Flash is fantastic for cross-platform consistency, and I look forward to the day when my dev work is done solely in it.
Oh yeah, one quick note.
The Mods Made Simple site was originally done in about 3 minutes in BBEdit. I later went in to quickly change something using GoLive. It's hands-down the most simplistic site I've created in the past 8 or 9 years
