cheap exhaust Idea
Ok i was thinking the other day about how unclean my exhaust sounds the other day(due to me making my own cat replacment pipe with very poor quality steel piping - Its very thin, and very loud now) And my avaliable income isn't very big, me being a student. I assume others on this forum are in the same position as i am. anyways, I thought that I could buy 2 cheap "cherry Bomb Turbo mufflers" and install one where the cats used to be(kinda like a presilencer), and the other where the stock muffler. And i was thinking that i should use two same mufflers so they would both restrict evenly. My question is, does this sound like an ok idea, and I'm aiming for quieter, and less restrictive. I will be adding a RB header, *** soon as some funds come in. But untill then, what do you think?

I haven't seen a cherry bomb turbo muffler b4 but i'd imagine the cherry bomb's internal in the front (where the cat would go) would turn to mush and then have no effect on lowering the noise level... of course, i could be wrong because i've never seen this brand of muffler...
btw, how do you plan to attach it to the existing exhaust piping?

i disagree; i run a cherry bomb directly out of my racingbeat header, from there straight 2.25" piping to a high flow muffler made by tsudo. it sounds friggin awesome! very deep and really not that loud at all!

Hey Zac, Are you useing a cherry bomb glass pack, or just a cheap cherry bomb turbo muffler, The ones i'm considering ownly cost about 30 dollars cdn, or roughly 20 dollars american, are we talking about the same kinda thing. So i guess your running your setup pretty much like how i want mine, except you have a better quality for the rear, which isn't a bad idea, because i guess it could add a nicer tone, and the first muffler could just clean the tone slightly and lower the noise,
maybe i'll go that route.
I was planning to just custom make all the piping myself, and just clamp them togeather with some exhaust cement, or whatever, shouldn't be too hard.

Sounds ok to me,you might want to try and weld the joints rather than just cementing them.I dont think the cement will last very long.
Getting a Rotary quiet is normally not easy,i have completely given up.I`am running a presilencer and two big ones with 2.5" piping, and its loud as hell.
110db to be precise!

My 84 RX7 still had the ORIGINAL muffler on it when I bought her. It just fell off the other day going over some RR tracks. My question is that my car still sounds the same, that is, it doesn't sound any (or much) louder than it did with the muffler on. Shouldn't it be MUCH louder? I had a CherryBomb muffler on my 280Z that sounded great, so i'm going to try it on the 7 and see what happens.

Cherry bomb will work as a presilencer..even though the glass packing will burn off .. the shell itself with the baffling inside is still a heavy gauge steel. For cost Id say get a Magnaflow muffler on the back..and save up for a quality exhaust job. The only muffler that can truly hold up to rotary heat while keep noise levels down is an RB PP muffler IMO.

vladu13-Im in the exact same boat as you, my stock muffler just kinda fell off. Its no different sounding at all, so i just welded a piece of 2.25 in with the split tip off the muffler - - looks and sounds stock, w/o the extreme heat being pushed all over the gas tank

Trust me. You do NOT want to go glasspack ("cherry bomb") on a rotary. Before I got my new RB Streetport exhaust, my exhuast was louder than any harley, and I could be heard for miles away. If that's the attention you want, then so be it... but be prepared when the "Loud Muffler" tickets start accumulating.

matty, sorry it took me forever to respond. i am using the 30 dollar cheap *** cherry bomb turbo II muffler. it works very well as a presilencer. then yes, using my tsudo muffler at the end adds a nice look and tone. the tsudo was about a hundred dollars; i'm good friends with the owner of the local speed shop. click on my sig and go to my pics. you'll se a rear shot of how it's angled out. i love this setup. i still get my 110 rwhp too. didn't effect performance.

yea i think i'm going to have to go that way,
and i was never planning on using a glass pack, i have a bad history with them, anyways, I think the double muffler setup would work out pretty well, I'll post my result when they are done, I'll be welding my exhaust togeather as wel, I just bought a used MIG welder for 120 bucks
